The Parent’s 20 Minute Guide to Change is an invaluable resource for any parent who is concerned about their child who is struggling with drugs or alcohol. It can also be helpful for any parent who is concerned about prevention. The Guide shares tools and strategies that parents can use at home to help their child. It emphasizes the value of positive reinforcement and kindness which has shown to help encourage change. For any parent trying to cope with their child’s substance use, I highly recommend The Parent’s 20 Minute Guide to Change. Cathy Taughinbaugh, Parents to PhDs: 28 interviews with people who share heartache, wisdom and healing from first-hand experience with substance use disorder. www.cathytaughinbaugh.com

I am the father of a child who started struggling with substance use disorders at 14 and is now in recovery from heroin addiction. This book was invaluable throughout that process as was the entire CRAFT model. I have since founded a family support group and typically purchase multiple copies at a time to give to our parents. I also speak publicly and have spoken on early intervention strategies and the CRAFT techniques are always the evidence based model I recommend the most highly and speak about. If you have a kid struggling with any substances this book will help you navigate that. It will also change your communication techniques when you grasp them not only with your kids, but all around your life for the better.

User friendly. Streamlined. Well organized. I routinely suggest this workbook in my practice. Clients find it to be very helpful and easy to follow. A great way to implement the information in "Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People Change" by Jeffery Foote. Also works well with "Get Your Loved One Sober" by Robert J. Meyers. A good companion to Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA) as well.
