The story begins five years from now, with anti-hero Mike O'Conner, who has become disenfranchised after an overzealous government agent cripples him during his arrest for hacking into the FBI's Most Wanted Site. Two years later, paroled, down on his luck and drowning in debt, he is faced with an ethical dilemma, should he tell the FBI what he has illegally learned about the terrorist attacks in Chicago, and risk violating his parole.
The FBI response to his honesty is to place some of the blame on Mike, hoping to calm a nervous American public. Through a quirk of circumstances, Mike escapes, soon both the FBI and the world's most deadly terrorist, pursue him. Will he be able to stop Sokol, a ruthless and technically skilled terrorist from destroying the global balance of power? The fate of the world rests in this very unlikely hero's hands.
