Book Description

Coming off a break-up with his latest “friend with benefits”, the last thing Aidan Fitzgerald needs is a family hassle about his bachelor status. But after standing up as godfather for his great-nephew, Mason, that’s just what he gets at the Christening Party. Escaping the wrath of his father and sisters, he wants nothing more than to get to the company Christmas party. There he knows he can knock back a few stiff drinks and find some new no-strings-attached girl to take home for the night.

The last thing Emma Harrison wants is to attend another party—least of all one at work. After throwing the annual life celebration for the anniversary of her fiancée, Travis’s, death with close friends, she’s finally gotten to the courage to take matters into her own hands and become a mother. Convincing her slightly inebriated best-friend, Connor, to be her sperm donor was a lot easier than she thought, and all that’s left now is to start the process. But at her best friend and work colleague, Casey’s, insistence, she decides to make an appearance at the company Christmas party for her new boss’s sake.

Neither Aidan nor Emma could imagine what fate had in store for them at the party.

1.0 out of 5 stars What am I Missing? June 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Did I read the same little story as all the 4- and 5-star reviewers? This is a short story (prequel) to other stories, with the back story of Emma and Aidan. This little story is, from what I can tell, one giant spoiler for the other books, and frankly, doesn't really stand alone all that well.

My main problem with The Party, however, was simply that it was just so coarse! I'm not averse to some steamy sex, and I'm aware that a lot of people swear, but the fact that the hero and his buddies are referred to (more than once) as "manwhores" was more than a little off-putting. Within the first few paragraphs we get Aidan and his "f*** buddy". Nice. Aidan and his equally trashy friends at the party just seemed to be over the top, I-can-write-just-as-nasty-as-50-Shades to me.

Then there's Emma, the heroine, who's still carrying a torch for her fiancé, five years after his death. Tragic, yes, I understand that. But it borders on creepy and obsessive that she's still holding "celebration of life" parties five years later and hasn't moved on. Throw in the "dry humping" incident with her gay friend (the guy she asks to father the baby she wants) and I kept asking myself what was wrong with the people who were raving about this author's work. I've read samples of the other books, and they seem to be equally coarse and absurdly dramatic (in one of the others, Aidan's girlfriend cheats, but he and his father keep it a secret and allow Aidan's mother to "sing Amy's praises" -- WHO DOES THAT????).

I very seldom leave negative reviews, and have never left a 1-star review before, but I felt so strongly about this one that I felt it was necessary. I wouldn't recommend this book (or any other by this author) to anyone I know.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste a dollar April 6, 2013

Where's the book. You get a very brief bit in the beginning that try's to draw you in but it's one of the deals where
You keep paying for bit of a story. What a waste of time and $$ I won't bother with this author again,

4.0 out of 5 stars cute prequel to The Proposition and The Proposal February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This was such a fun little novella. I loved The Proposition and The Proposal so it was a nice little treat to be able to read about Emma and Aiden before they met. Anyone who is a fan of The Proposition and The Proposal then you will love this extra treat.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed June 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This "book" was just a teaser and not a complete story. I was very disappointed. The story ended before it began.

1.0 out of 5 stars incomplete book June 14, 2014

Only half a book, whilst ms ashley tells a good story, one needs to pay at least twice or three times to get the whole story - annoying!

5.0 out of 5 stars novella? this one I didn't mind. October 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I usually don't read novella's, it gave me some insight into the other books in the series as well as a little sneak peek into Aiden & Emma's budding romance.

1.0 out of 5 stars I am confused July 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I thought the second book would pick up where the first book left off. This is not the case. The first part ends with Emma running down the street upset at a friend. She had met the hero once. The sequel begins with Aiden drunk and pining after Emma and his Dad even knows who she is. I don't understand, I started to read the sequel and now I am confused. I deleted the book immediately. Don't waste your valuable time.
