5.0 out of 5 stars Humanity needs Paper Route September 11, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Incredible album with hooks so massive that it destroys anything currently infecting radio, yet with a level of substance and authenticity that today's carbon copy pop artists couldn't even attempt to replicate.

Lyrically, much of The Peace of Wild Things chronicles the devastation and fallout from a divorce.

With lyrics like

"You always wanted the best around, so you messed around, on the blessed ground we stood" (from "Letting You Let Go")

or

"You gave up and I lost track, when you love someone who don't love back, it don't matter who's at fault, nothing matters now at all" (from "Better Life")

You can almost feel your heart ripping out of your chest. The album is vulnerable, painful, and honest, yet there's strands of hope throughout.

Listen to the falsetto in the chorus of "Letting You Let Go". As frontman JT Daly sings "I don't want to hurt forever", it's a single moment of desperation, heartbreak, and longing but it captures everything that's amazing about music. It meets people where they're at, it picks them up off the floor, it gives them something to shout at the top of their lungs and claim as their own, and most importantly, it brings healing. This is The Peace of Wild Things

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Wait September 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Ever since discovering Paper Route a couple years ago mainly with the release of "Absence" I've been enamored with their sound. I quickly grabbed the previous EPs and anything of theirs I could get my hands on. They have this beautiful way of twisting music and rhythms to make you just smile as you think, "Wow, this is good!" Then you realize you're smiling while the lead singer (J.T. Daly) is bearing his soul and the pain of heartbreak and disappointment at life's circumstances. They intentionally mix heavily produced elements with raw piano and soaring vocal elements to reflect the complexity and duality of life.

That's why I came to love Paper Route and that is why this album does anything but disappoint. In a sense they have kept exactly what makes them who they are. You'll feel a familiarity with many of the songs on "The Peace of Wild Things." In another sense it's a real development and continuation of the track they've been on for years. "Tamed" is incredibly eerie and enchanting. On the flip side I can't seem to stop listening to songs like "Better Life" and "Two Hearts" and stomping my foot or pounding my fist along to the driving rhythm and singing along to the incredibly catchy melodies.

It was painful waiting for Paper Route to release a new album after "Absence" but I was pleasantly surprised to not have to warm up to this new album or let it grow on me. Instantly, I knew this album was worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Evocative, Amazing June 3, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
If I still bought records, this album's grooves would be worn out. Amazing songs, amazing emotions. And, the band is even better in concert. I was lucky to see the band, Paper Route, open for Imagine Dragons this year, and what an terrific show. Put this CD/mp3 on repeat, and just let it take you over. I can't recommend this band, and this album, enough. The band is like the offspring of Tears for Fears and Peter Gabriel, with today's beats. Calm your soul, buy it now. You'll never regret your purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Waiting all year for this! September 27, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been waiting for this album since Paper Route announced it last year. I am very pleased with it, overall it is a great album. There are a few songs on it that are not as exciting as the rest of their album but still a real good listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best so far! My favorite of the year, hands down. September 27, 2012

I can't stop listening to this album! There isn't a single skip-worthy track on the album. (If I'm being COMPLETELY honest, I think Rabbit Holes is kind of the odd-ball and stands out where the others flow seamlessly together, but it's still not skip-worthy!) Glass Heart Hymn is a striking in its simplicity and Sugar and Calm My Soul are beautiful departures from the upbeat. Overall, this is absolutely the best thing Paper Route has done to date. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Lord have you walked away... September 18, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Wow... just wow. This is an EPIC album. I saw Paper Route perform a few of these songs before the cd was officially released and I knew then that I had to have this when it came out. Yes, "Absence" was a great cd, but I feel that this one has more "share-ability." Although I really enjoy all the songs, I would say that standouts for me are "Love Letters", "Calm my Soul", "Letting You Let Go", and "Rabbit Holes". I must say, although I really, really enjoy the album, that the lyrics don't appear to be as strong as those off "Absence." The lyrics of "The Peace of Wild Things" are still poetic, they just seem more straight-forward rather than layers upon layers of symbolism. I highly reccomend this Cd for anyone searching for good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paper Route's Sophomore Slump? September 12, 2012
By Josh
Format:MP3 Music
Heck no. Paper Route has released another amazing album. And, for those expecting this to be Absence pt. 2, you might want to hold on to your horn rimmed glasses. "The Peace of Wild Things" departs from Paper Route's previous endeavor, it is more poppy and upbeat though the lyrics maintain their same soulful searching. But don't throw a "They sold out!" fit just yet. Paper Route still holds on to some of their haunting melodies and are more indie now than ever, especially since this is their first big independent release.

In all seriousness, I think this is some of Paper Route's best work. As people in a band things in their lives change and they reflect that change in their music instead of pumping out the same heartless dribble because they know it will sell well. That being said, these songs are still the heart grabbing tunes Paper Route has been creating since day one. This record contains the anthem qualities of "Carousel" cranked up to ten while still holding on to their less marketable indie roots in "Glass Heart Hymn", "Tamed", "Calm My Soul", and the iTunes exclusive "Born In Love". The track "Rabbit Holes" seems to echo "Gutter" in the fact that it is so strange and different from the rest of the album and, just like "Gutter", it is pulled of magnificently.

JT Daly steps up into his roll as solo vocalist with amazing results. His voice is displayed front and center on this record, much clearer and louder than on "Absence". That, Mixed with the amazing drumming of Gavin McDonald and Chad Howat's musical genius, makes this album a glorious work of art. Catchy art.

For those that like mainstream pop, you will find some common ground and so much more depth echoed in these songs.
