Book Description

There are so many things you take for granted, as if you haven’t heard the horror story of our race. You bare your skin to the heat of the sun while we shiver in the damp core of the Earth. You complain about the cost of steak and potatoes while we dig the cold, compacted core for anything our dry throats might swallow.

There was a time when vampires, witches, demons and elementals enjoyed the surface of the earth along with you humans. We knew the pleasure of pores opening to absorb the warmth of the sun and all other enticements offered by life on the surface.

We too lived with ignorance, gluttony, pride and anger. That was until the fate of our race was fully revealed. We too heard the tales of horrors past and even bigger horrors to come, but we turned a blind eye. Immediate pleasure was far easier to focus on than long-term pain.

Our fate was determined far earlier than it was revealed to us, and the fate of your race is no mystery. The sun will evaporate before your eyes. The warmth will be replaced with nonstop chills. The beasts you fear will fall like mice. The bugs you disregard will rise up like demons.

Welcome to our tale where humans are not the only life forms of importance. Immerse yourself in the Pentacle of Light and meet fantastical characters who will allow you to see your world differently.

It all starts with a naïve witch named Moira. Her journey starts with a chilling vision of mass destruction, but where it ends is even more important than where it begins.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a series March 23, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition
Great opening to this series. I was surprised what a sharp read it was.

The scenery is amazing, and you get a grasp of Moira and the other witches in this part. A very strong back story kicks it off, and I was enchanted by the opening myth. It gives a good direction for the tale to go.

I wish the story went a little further in the first part, but still not a bad deal. That is the reason for 4 stars.

I can't wait to see where it goes and to find out more about the world created here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense Fantasy Awesomeness!!!! January 21, 2012
By Molly
Format:Kindle Edition
Witches. Vampires. Fantasy. Not something that you would expect from horror/thriller author, Joel M. Andre, but I will tell you this. I LOVED it. I don't typically get into Fantasy work all that easy, but these two stories instantly had me hooked. Moira is a force to be reckoned with that's for sure! I LOVED following her story and seeing where Andre's fantasy writing would go.

These two short stories(Pentacle Of Light Series, #1 and #2) are packed full with intense excitement as you follow Moira and the races through wild proportions. A Great Battle is coming, and When Moira encounters a Vampire....well, let's just say that when you're a witch and you meet a vamp, things aren't going to be easy. I loved the loyalty that Moira possessed for her sister, Kyla. Seeing them together and the way the demons arose and the consequences that Moira had to deal with for knowing a Vamp was awesome.

I won't go to much further into these two stories....they're short and packed full of AWESOMENESS. I'm truly amazing at the ability that Joel M. Andre has to create this GREATASTIC fantasy work and still combined it with a bit of his trademark horror, and create epic work. Definitely a 5 Book worthy dive into the fantasy realm. I can't wait to get my hands on the other 4 parts of this series and see what level Andre takes the stories to.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Epic Start May 20, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm going to need to buy the rest of this series. Started reading this Fantasy tale and wasn't going to give it too much thought.

You really get a bond with the Witch Moira, and the world she lives in is beautifully crafted and amazing. Hands down a great opener to a series, that I really want to read more of.

This is a blend of Terry Pratchett mixed with a little more realism.

"The Pentacle of Light Series: Moira" is the first book in an extended series of short connected tales by author Joel M. Andre. This Kindle e-edition was a 47 Kb download (approx. 42 printed pages) and sell for $0.99 at the time of writing this review.
This work was published in 2009 as a weekly series.

Spoilers (General theme)

This is a tale of Moira, a witch with some magical skills who lives with her brethren underground. In this world there are five races... Vampires, Demons, Witches, Elementals and Humans. They initially lived in harmony, but over time hatred and animosity grew, resulting in arguements and finally conflicts. A meeting convened by God brought a representative of each group together. The premise being, lay down your weapons and live in peace again OR fight and the victor will rule the surface and the rest will be cast to live below the Earth's surface. All but the Human laid down his arms at which point he slaughtered the other 4 representatives... this dastardly act has been remembered by all as 'The Great Betrayal'. Now, after millenniums, rumblings have been heard calling for a change.

End Spoilers

Some thoughts on 'The Pentacle of Light: Moira'...

1.) a quicks and easy read. A weekly series if done right can be an attractive vehicle for presenting a great story.

2.) prefaced by a prologue that basically sets up the scenario that I've discussed in my 'spoiler' above.

3.) a story that initially seemed to have some promise but I found that about 1/2 way through I began to lose interest in this tale. The conversations and story line just seemed to founder.

4.) for me, when God gets involved in fantasy tales, warning bells tend to go off.

5.
