This commentary attempts to be scholarly and devotional, and fails at both. Obviously, if you buy into the author's presuppositions regarding scholarship and modernities critiques, you will find much to love here. Unfortunately, it will come at the expense of thoroughly honoring the text and its unvarnished insights and comments on the socio-cultural milieu of the ANE. Accepting that all of us approach the text with our own presuppositions, I find the inconsistencies required to argue for Mosaic authorship on the one hand and in turn trumpeting the medical science wisdom of circumcision on the eighth day untenable and ironic.

I originally had to use this book for a course in bible college called, 'The Pentateuch'. At the time the book was just a textbook -- until I went back to it a few months or so ago. If you're wanting to understand the first 5 more clearly but don't want to spend the bucks this is the book for you.

The book was everthing I expected it to be it simplifies the first books of Moses. Once you start reading you do not want to put it down.
