I love books and keep a library of helpful books that are "keepers".. ones that are full of wisdom or say something very well. Out of all the books I have on knowing who God is and how to walk through life with Him, next to the Bible, this is my favorite. I love reading this book, first of all, because Ruth Myers knows God so well. Her admiration, passion, and devotion to Him come across on every page. Secondly, as a woman who was single, then married and a missionary in Asia, then suddenly widowed with children, then lonely and learning to trust God with the stresses of single parenting, and then as a married woman again, Ruth offers practical and loving words as she tells her story that we can all benefit from. Third, Ruth possesses an uncommon wisdom. On every page, there was something that arrested me..something I could keep and use immediately. One thing in particular was the ART of how to handle negative thoughts by A) acknowledging them B)renouncing them and T) thinking the truth with thanksgiving. When I added the third step (which I had never really learned to do before), my life (and my relationship with God) changed to become more confident, more joyful, more filled with awe at His greatness. Another chapter tells it like it is about the kind of love that God gives us, as compared with the best of human love. As a person who has been a believer for more than twenty-five years, I found that she knew and put so well things I have been learning the last ten. The supply of riches and wisdom and help that a person will receive from this book is practically inexhaustible. Although I have not even finished the book yet, I have already given away four copies to my friends! I don't believe I will ever outgrow this book, and I am hoping to also get the study guide.Read more ›

This book is the favorite book on my shelf other than my bible. I go to it often as it helps me to embrace the perfect love of our King. I found that I did not gobble it up as I have other books, but rather sipped it like tea savoring the Truths inside. I cannot find it in print anymore, but when I find someone special God would like me to share it with, I order one that is "like new" and send it on to a friend. I highly recommend it!

It is important to have the companion book to this. The study guide is so helpful in applying and making the Scriptures personal. I think all of my life I have been timid about "making God too personal". This book gently leads one into that. It is such a wonderful book on communicating God's love for us and also does a great job on explaining why so many of our struggles are from not understanding God's love (misconceptions). I went out and bought 10 copies of this book for friends/relatives as gifts. Ruth Myers "31 Days of Praise" is also an excellent book--I only use the Bible more (and that book is so full of Scripture anyway to lead us in praise of our Lord--but it also instructs on why praise is so important).

The title of this book is what really caught my attention. Many people in today's world have a hard time believing that God Really loves them. Ruth Myers addresses the reasons why people feel this way and through her own life experiences she shares with her readers her failures as well as her victories. The Author uses old hymns, quotes and her own words to portray her message.

I found the first few chapters of the book very interesting. I savored many of the words that I read and began to see and feel God's love for me better than I have in a long time. I wrote down in a journal some of the quotes that were shared and many of my favorites were from A.W. Tozer including this one: "God is so vastly wonderful, so utterly and completely delightful, that He can without anything other than Himself meet and overflow the deepest demands of our total nature, mysterious and deep as that nature is." She also shares many Bible verses on God's love.

I do have to say though that there were a few things that the Author says that I disagreed with. The main thing was that she stated that we are all sinners and will always be sinners and that God gives us victories over SOME of our sins. I strongly disagree with that statement. When God saves the sinner they are to go and sin no more and therefore are no longer sinners. We are then a child of God. He can and will give you victory over ALL of your sins. Another place in the book she tells us of a time that she was praying and she gave God "permission" to do something in her life. She does state that she knows God doesn't need her permission, but sometimes she needs to give it to Him. That statement just bugged me.

**This book was given to me by Waterbrook Multnomah for free in exchange for my review.

The Perfect Love- by Ruth Myers is an inside look into the relationship Ruth has with God. The book is PACKED full of advice for growing closer to God, memorizing his deep truths and how to practice relying on Him more each day. Ruth was in her seventies when she wrote this book (she has since passed on), and you can tell she has lived a full life learning to trust in her savoir. Yes, this book is about how amazing God's love is, but it goes deeper than traditional God-is-love books. She shows us what this means to us, and what our response should look like.

There is so much freedom in learning to trust God, in learning more about who He is. Ruth said "It's who He is that makes me who I am" and later talks about how God is first. For women, this message is especially huge, as husbands and friends can and do disappoint. I know that I crave the intimacy that can only be satisfied by Christ. He is who will fill us, and He is the one we need to aim to please. "Building our sense of identity on human responses is like building on sand, which easily erodes when the winds blow and the rain descends. It can not give us the foundation we need both today and all our lives." (p. 247) I loved reading this book, and will definitely return to it again. Ruth doesn't minimize pain, or our individual struggles, but she shows how God really can bring you through all of them and that he is the answer to what we are all searching for.

This is a book to sit on- to take slow sips away over an extended period of time. The message is often repeated, and the book feels long, but it is strong. A wonderful message that Ruth supports with Bible verses, poems, songs, and quotes. I wish that her reference section had been a little better showing readers where to actually find all of the wonderful references she made, but that is only a small complaint. I received this book free for review purposes, and it will remain a staple in my library for years to come.
