Book Description

The Phantom King by Heather Killough-Walden
is book two in the Big Bad Wolf spinoff series, The Kings
and sequel to The Vampire King.

Siobhan Ashdown was born of magic; it rides her blood like a phantom, tainted and dark and unpredictable. She is a warlock, and the power within her is unlike any before known to her kind. So it’s no surprise that the most powerful of the demons who feed off of this warlock magic not only recognizes the enormous potential she represents but determines that he will possess her at any cost.
Even if it means war with the entire supernatural world.

Thanatos has ruled Purgatory as the Phantom King since time immemorial. King of a vast plane of solitude, he is a free spirit, a lone rider, a tattooed man of wind and dust and nonexistent boundaries. Then he turns around one morning to find himself face to face with Siobhan Ashdown, a woman with hair as red and wild as his soul, eyes like melted gold, and a spirit as elusive as his own. Time stops, the world tilts, and the fact that she attacks him right off the bat does little to deter his romantic convictions - nor his desire to sink his fangs into her neck.

Thirteen Kings are severed by lust and greed, an ancient vampire and his rogue creation lay claim to what is not theirs, the whisperings of war begin to shake the foundation of the supernatural world, and primordial evil awakens from its slumber to slither across the land in this second installment in the Big Bad Wolf spinoff series, The Kings, by Heather Killough-Walden.

In the supernatural world of The Kings, thirteen Kings represent all the different realms. Vampires, Were's, Demons, Phantoms, Warlocks all sit in council to keep the supernatural world governed and secret. Led by the Vampire King they alone keep mankind from utter destruction.

The Phamton King rules in a world of purgatorial desolation. It is here that those who are killed by violence come to wait out their time and come to grips with their murders. He lives alone, his only solace his collection of antique vehicles which he lovingly restores. Thane's world is devoid of life, a desert, reflecting his mood. Each time another soul comes to him seeking the truth of his death, Thane feels their despair.

Siobhan is a Warlock. Discovering her gift at an early age she works hard to keep herself from using her magic in harshness or anger. Something not normal for a Warlock. To keep from hurting others she lives alone crafting her environment to her wishes with magic. Siobhan is also grieving, he boyfriend has been murdered and she is not sure if the perpetrator is a supernatural or not. But she is suspicious that the death of her boyfriend is linked to her powers. She knows that others would like to feed off her magic to increase their own power.

When Thane and Siobhan meet electricity is in the air. They are entranced and entrapped by the attraction between them. But not everyone is happy at this turn of events and one will risk the peace, mankind and his life to have her.

Ms. Killough-Walden writes entrancing characters with a unique storyline. Her protagonists are mulit-dimensional and realistic. The dialogue has snap and fits the characters. When she needs to add information and back stories it is added with ease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read!!! May 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If you've read The Vampire King this second installment of the series will not dissapoint. WOW! Is all I can really say. There are parts in the first book which are brought to light such as Evie and Roman but also the mysterious blond running away in a taxi and a certain king. My favorite part of this series is we are well informed when it comes to each character but it never takes the light way from the main characters. When it comes to Thane & Siobhan OMG is all I can say. It's catastrophic and devilishly delish when Thane and Siobhan come together, all thrillingly to say the least. I couldn't put the book down at all and it was honestly worthy of using a vacation day to read. (LOL) The ending seriously has me blown away and I cant wait for book number three. Just amazing. SERIOUSLY A GOOD READ! HKW has done it again!!

To begin, I would like to say that I have currently read all of HKW's books, so that in itself should give you the first clue as to what I think of Heather and her books. If you don't like a book or author the first time you are introduced to them, you wouldn't buy 12 of their books in a few weeks, and then wait with baited breath, viewing their facebook page first thing every morning hoping for updates and tidbits, until each new tantalising treat is released.
And that is what this book has certainly turned out to be.

To me, a good book is one that can make you laugh out loud, enable you to feel the joy and fear of the characters as if they were real, make your heart pound and pulse race, and have you so on the edge of your seat that you can't stop reading until the end. This is what The Phantom King was for me in every sense. It is not only Thanatos and Siobhan that have you enthralled as you read, but the inclusion of every other one of your favourite characters, who you feel just as much emotion about. HKW has a way of linking her books and characters, supernatural beings and mortals, time and space, that leave you captivated, spellbound and hungering for more.

I found The Phantom King to be just as good as I had hoped and more, and was not disappointed. If you have been drawn to Heather Killough Walden and The Phantom King, then this must be the type of author and book which appeals to you, or you wouldn't be taking the time to read this review. I can promise that you won't be disappointed, and to give fair warning, you may even become hooked, and may never be the same again after reading. I mean, what mortal man could ever stand a chance against Kings and Gods, Alpha males and Angels...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling hot!!! June 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Kings series are women's dreams come true! First I need to say, read the The Big Bad Wolf Romance Compilation (Bundle: Books 1-4) first (I found buying the set like this was easier), it isn't necessary but it makes this book more enjoyable as other characters cross over into the Kings series. Even if you're not a paranormal romance fan? You will become one for life once you read these! I did =)

Now this is my very first review of ANY book, but this is what this Author does to a reader - makes you beg for more and tell the world! I was not disappointed at all with The Phantom King (or any of the others!); I loved the story line, it was full on excitement but not complicated, the characters will keep you hooked keep you on your toes.

Heather details every paragraph so well it creates a feeling that the scenes are happening before your eyes like a movie rather than a book! The men are sexy as heck, protective and dominant however the woman in these series are independent and strong, making you fall in love with all of them. Full of `OH' and `mmmm' moments, The Phantom King will not disappoint =D
