Heard the single Baby on internet radio and was hooked by the old-school soul sound, so thought I'd check this out (esp. for $5 MP3 download, thought it was a bargain). This is some great music, reminiscent of 70s soul/funk, maybe a late-70s Santana, meets Sly & the Family Stone, meets Stevie Wonder, meets Shuggie Otis. I can't say that there is anything groundbreaking in this recording, but it has some catchy beats that makes you want to groove like it's 1976! Good stuff.

It's an excellent album by an excellent band. A review I read somewhere else joked that the title of both the album and the band is misleading -- it really should be the Excellent Tambourine Experience, and I agree. My favourite tracks are "You'll Disappear", "15 to 20" (this one WILL get stuck in your head), "All of the Above", and "Testimony". The songs sometimes flow into one another and there is thematic continuity throughout the album; however, the tracks are suitable for individual listening or being on a shuffled playlist.

Bluesy hip hop. Good beets all the way through. Totaly worth it. CD case is kind of cheesey though, cardboard not a hard cover. But hey if it keeps it cheep then forget about it.
