This program isn't for the lazy or uncommitted. It's hard work but gives results. I'm 59 and have finally found a program that kicks my butt but not my joints. Anyone can do this even if you are a beginner just by pushing yourself as far as you can. I hated the typical cardio exercises of walking/stepping/elliptical etc., because they were so boring. Free weights were also a dull chore but the movements shown here are short lived with so much variety you don't have enough time to think about boredom. What I love is your cardio is done while you're exercising. Your muscles are so sore you think you lifted 500 lb weights and by the time you're done you are a sweating like you just ran a marathon. Needless to say this isn't something you can do on your lunch hour! All that said, you can do this at your own pace. At first I was going to buy the video but one of the reviews said to buy the book first. I'm so glad I did. I'm not tied to a TV with a twisted head; trying to keep up; and maneuvering my body to be able to watch the TV. Take the time to learn the poses first. That's what I did and boy was it good advice. At first it seemed like a lot of different exercises but they quickly fell into place. I have written reviews before but only after being prompted to do so. This is the first time I actually wanted to write one on my own. This book is well worth the investment.

I bought these dvd's 3 years ago. When I first got them I thought there was no way I could get through the dvd. I decided the first week I would do the 30 min. one 5 days a week. I couldn't do all the pushups and some of the others but I counted and each time I made myself do one more than the last time. 3 years later I do these workouts religiously. They are amazing. They will definitely tone and shape you in all the right places. I dropped 2 sizes in only 3 months. On the dvd they say you'll notice a difference in your body in 8 workouts - it is the honest truth! I'm a BIG fan of these dvd's and have never liked exercising at home.

The Physique 57 Solution is not only a book you read through to learn, it is more like a reference book for exercise, diet ("way of life" eating plan) proper form, recipes. I've been a Physique "Phanatic" for over 2 years and the changes have been nothing short of incredible. At 51, I am in better shape than I was 20 years ago. With all of the hype out there concerning cardio, interval, strengthening, etc. what you have here is the best of all of it in one incredible book. I am a "former runner", step class taker, bike rider, and the results I've gotten with this one workout make the other exercises seem like child's play. The results just keep getting better and better! Make an investment in yourself for the New Year and make a resolution that will be so great for you to follow through on. This book makes it completely attainable. With wonderful photographs demonstrating the proper form, easy-to-follow recipes and tips, this book should be on everyone's Top 10 list for 2012 (with this book being #1, of course!)

I bought this because I have been really digging barre classes and videos, but I needed something more "portable." So, when I saw that this basically describes the program, the moves, and actually gives two full-length sample workouts, I jumped at the opportunity.

I consider myself very fit. I'm in the military and am one of the people who runs our command fitness because I can regularly get the maximum score on the fitness test; I've completed two half-marathons, a few Warrior Dashes, and a Tough Mudder where another military guy and I ran the whole thing. I've done P90X, I've been through Insanity, and I take boot camp classes weekly.

This workout kicked my booty because it does exactly the opposite of my boot camp classes. The moves are primarily isometric and require attention to form. The authors explain the rationale behind this, and I was surprised to see how effective it was. I actually had to leave out a set of the ab work because I couldn't contract my muscles any more. The instructions for each move are very clear, but you must read through all the moves before you attempt a workout. Also, in my Kindle version, the pictures show models in black against a white background, which for the most part made the form of the move very clear.

I only give it four stars because I'm not sold on the nutrition section. What they say sounds like a lot of food sounds like too little food, although I can't say I actually tried to count up the total calories. For anyone new to dieting, the meal plan definitely looks like a diet. The recipes are helpful, but not super-inspiring. They do have tips for eating out, but overall, I would rather focus on eating clean and get myself a good cookbook than eat some less-than-delicious meals.

Normally, I would prefer a workout DVD to a book, but this is so well done! You get an incredible understanding of why you're doing what you do and extremely detailed step by step guidance on how to do each move. What I love best, and what I find missing in the DVD included with the book and in a recent online video I did at their site, is all the stretching. They teach you how to stretch throughout your workout so that when you're done you feel amazing - you know you've worked hard and you feel loose, not stiff. (OK, in the beginning I did feel stiff, but it gets better with time.). I will stop the DVD to stretch myself and find it to be so much more affective when i do. I also love that with all the options in the book, you can easily mix and match to create a different workout every day if you want to.

I'm a regular exerciser who's done a large variety of workouts, but never anything like this, so I find it quite challenging. It's changing my physique in ways that make me very happy and ways that no other workout has been able to do!
