Hard-boiled detective, straight up, with a twist. Delivered in convenient single-shot glasses, i.e., stand alone short story chapters. I particularly liked seeing the world through the eyes of a wheel-chair bound veteran who's an athlete, a skillful detective and, apparently, an equally able lover. Beautiful women double-cross him (of course!), leaving him to solve crimes with the questionable assistance of Henrietta, whose lovers qualify for San Quentin housing at government expense. Lots of sardonic humor and great one-liners.

I loved this book for lots of reasons. For one, the main protagonist, the P.I. is someone who, while very different than I am (I'm a bi-ped) is someone I could relate to. Smart, loyal, sexy and a quick thinker...each when it counts. I read this book in 2 evenings mostly because I just couldn't put it down. The themes and settings are described so perfectly, I felt like I was there. The people are similarly described....I've met them all! You will too.
