Product Description

Made from our specially engineered SmartPottery ceramic, Plant Nanny stakes help plants stay healthier by releasing water into the soil where and when the plants need it. This optimal watering system prevents plant roots from drying out and pots and containers stay more uniformly moist. Excellent for use in house plants, hanging planters, container gardens, or any where you want plants to have a reliable source of water. Also use Plant Nanny Stakes when transplanting to help plants avoid root shock. Simply insert the Plant Nanny into the soil on one or both sides of a plant. Plants roots will grow around the stake and use water more efficiently.

Easy to refill Add-A-Bottle Stakes feature an innovative drip free adaptor that connects a standard water or soda bottle to a stake to increase the reservoir size to extend the tome between waterings. See when to water and grow healthier plants.

Make sure to water plant once after putting stake in soil.

Advantages:
The 5.5 size is bigger in all dimensions and is suitable for large plants and container gardens. Use up to 2-Liter bottle size.

You will receive one set of 4 stakes.

Bottle not included.

I have a large balcony and about 15 potted plants of various sizes. I also live in Houston, and it gets pretty hot. I was hoping that these stakes would make it so I would only have to water my plants every 3 or 4 days, or at least not more than every other day. I wanted to be able to leave for a week or so and know that everything would at least be kind of alive when I got back.
After extensive testing (both in my plants and in tall clear glasses so I can see how much water is coming out) I have found that water does in fact very, very slowly seep through the clay stakes. The problem is that it is no where near enough to actually sustain the plants; about a third of an ounce a day comes out of these things (11 ml). I have to put at least 10 or 12 ounces into my 1 gallon pots every day to keep them from wilting and dying.
I'm disappointed in these things and do not recommend them. Really the only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is because the basic premise is true; water does slowly come out of them. It just comes out so slowly that it's like watering your plants with an eye dropper.
I'm still watering my plants by hand every day and would love to see a real balcony-friendly watering system that doesn't involve a degree in hydrodynamics and a $1200 budget. Any links?

This product works as stated and I have only had a few troubles with it, being that they are extremely fragile and I had 2 break on me while just re-inserting a bottle.

I actually have them hooked up to a little 12oz. bottle. Looks better than the bigger bottles.
