Review

"Registered Dietitian Sharon Palmer wrote a book that is much like a superfood: dense with the good stuff. The abundance of information in the first half is worth its weight in kale, then followed by 75 of the author’s own, family-tested recipes. This is a tome ideal for flexitarians and new vegans who are still learning.”

For anyone who has ever considered becoming a vegetarian, Ms. Palmer's book lays out in detail the nutritional benefits of such a choice. Included are chapters on different grains, vegetables, and fruits, and recipes using them that are healthy, delicious and easy to make. Together with her handy pantry lists and dining out tips, she makes it very easy to transition, if only for a day (yeah, Meatless Mondays!).

The author, a registered dietician, is both careful and thorough in explaining the health, environmental, and culinary advantages of adopting a plant-based diet. Her apparent intention is to address people wherever they happen to be on the diet spectrum. She acknowledges that many people, at least initially, will choose to eat modest amounts of meat and/or dairy, while others may choose to be vegans. There are a number of well referenced tables and charts that provide the facts regarding your personal choices. Also included is a nice collection of uncomplicated but delicious recipes. If you're not looking for another diet guru, but would like to learn the latest evidence, this book would be a very good choice.

Sharon Palmer, RD offers sage advice on how to become a "plant-powered" omnivore, helping us place our meat consumption in proper portions and perspective while celebrating her recipes for delicious plant-based protein dishes to satisfy our inner paleo. The Plant-Powered Diet ROCKS!!

I've been looking to change my diet for a long time now, and this book gives me the resources to do it. I do believe you have to be willing and ready for a life change like this, so it may not be for everyone. I appreciate how the author gives history about the foods she discusses and easy to read charts. I especially like how she provides information to not just vegans and vegetarians, but to omnivores, too. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is ready to change their life for the better. I have been slowly making changes over the last month according to the author's suggestions, and I've seen a huge improvement in how I feel.

There's a wealth of information in this book, so much more than a cook book, but I've also enjoyed the recipes I've tried so far. Though I've wanted to make a transition to a more plant-based diet for some time, I've never quite had the motivation to make a lasting change. I think this book will be very helpful and motivating. Looking forward to trying more recipes.
