"Registered Dietitian Sharon Palmer wrote a book that is much like a superfood: dense with the good stuff. The author, a registered dietician, is both careful and thorough in explaining the health, environmental, and culinary advantages of adopting a plant-based diet. Her apparent intention is to address people wherever they happen to be on the diet spectrum. She acknowledges that many people, at least initially, will choose to eat modest amounts of meat and/or dairy, while others may choose to be vegans. There are a number of well referenced tables and charts that provide the facts regarding your personal choices. Also included is a nice collection of uncomplicated but delicious recipes. If you're not looking for another diet guru, but would like to learn the latest evidence, this book would be a very good choice.

For anyone who has ever considered becoming a vegetarian, Ms. Palmer's book lays out in detail the nutritional benefits of such a choice. Included are chapters on different grains, vegetables, and fruits, and recipes using them that are healthy, delicious and easy to make. Together with her handy pantry lists and dining out tips, she makes it very easy to transition, if only for a day (yeah, Meatless Mondays!).

I've been looking to change my diet for a long time now, and this book gives me the resources to do it. I do believe you have to be willing and ready for a life change like this, so it may not be for everyone. I appreciate how the author gives history about the foods she discusses and easy to read charts. I especially like how she provides information to not just vegans and vegetarians, but to omnivores, too. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is ready to change their life for the better. I have been slowly making changes over the last month according to the author's suggestions, and I've seen a huge improvement in how I feel.

There's a wealth of information in this book, so much more than a cook book, but I've also enjoyed the recipes I've tried so far. Though I've wanted to make a transition to a more plant-based diet for some time, I've never quite had the motivation to make a lasting change. I think this book will be very helpful and motivating. Looking forward to trying more recipes.

What do I love about it? It's a book that doesn't force vegetarianism down your throat like some other books I've seen. Sharon very gently encourages a more plant-based diet by identifying various "stages" that someone may be in and how they can shift their focus to a more heart-healthy plant based way of life. I'm a registered dietitian nutritionist always encouraging my clients to, as one of Sharon's chapters states, shift their focus from animals to plants. Personally I am not a vegetarian and likely never will be - I love an occasional steak or juicy burger (but "occasional" to me is a few times per year). I do consider myself a "flexitarian" or what you may call a "semi-vegetarian". The Plant-Powered Diet Spectrum on page 28 is one of my favorite ideas in the book. On one end of the spectrum is the plant-powered vegan and the other end is the plant-powered omnivore. This is a very well-referenced book that I encourage everyone to have on their bookshelf.

I was looking for a helpful, encouraging, and informative book on how to incorporate and increase veggies and grains in my diet. I found it with Sharon Palmer's book.
This is an intelligently written book with a hint of logical persuasion. I especially enjoyed the flexibility Ms Palmer presents with varying degrees of plant based eating. Being an omnivore, I didn't feel guilt-ridden about being a meat eater after reading this book. Also, the recipes at the end gave me the kick start on how to blend flavors and ingredients. I enjoyed this book and keep it in the kitchen for all occasions. Highly recommend it.
