I hate to have to give this book one star because I'm a fan of Rida Allen's and I've read all her novels, but it doesn't deserve anything higher. Some of Allen's novels are great and even those that aren't, are at least tolerable. I've noticed that Ms. Allen's writing has been getting better in terms of descriptions and style, and the set up of this book was good, it was just poorly delivered.
I felt no chemistry between the main characters. Outside of their one night stand, they didn't spend any time together so I don't understand how they could be in love. I don't want to put any spoilers so I'll just say that this is supposed to be a romance novel, but it spent too much time on a situation that was not at all romantic. I understand the need to include it, but there didn't need to be so much focus on it. The characters spent more time apart than together so where was the romance? There also wasn't much focus on the size of Joel, which is somethign that Allen is known for--writing about BBWs. It's as if she wanted to downplay that aspect. I'm sorry I just can't recommend this book because I regret the time I wasted to read it. |
