A very informative book that identifies specific issues and factors that have lead to the extreme polarization in political ideology in this country. In the end, the attempt to draw people further apart is only making our government incapable of getting anything done. It's an important read because it can help people better understand the importance of economic issues, race, and social issues such as abortion or gay marriage, in the context of political ideology.

Being a political science major, I have read my fair share of books, and I have to say this one is just terrible. The subject of polarization itself is very interesting no matter whether you find it to be true or false, but Abramowitz's delivery is just bland (and that's being kind). Additionally, it's more of a manual than an actual book. However, despite being very short...I just cannot seem to make myself read it entirely. It's one of those books where you start a chapter, drift, and then skip to another chapter and repeat. I wonder how this thing ever got published?

The only reason I read this was because it was required by Professor Abramowitz for his political science class. It is very poorly written and didn't give me a better understanding of the material. (The other required readings were much more interesting and informative.) If you are looking for information on this subject you are better off just reading articles for free online.
