I had heard that Dr. Polkinghome was trained as an Anglican priest in his youth but turned to a scientific career and became a widely respected and accomplished distinguished physicist. But, in keeping with his religious interests, he also published extensively on his religious beliefs. This book is a selection of his religious writings and I think presents them in a readable and logical sequence. I was very surprised to find that, as a scientist, I found his approach to be far too dogmatic to be acceptable to me. As a lapsed Unitarian with a strong belief in existentialism, I could not reconcile his Bible based arguments with his attempts to link "Faith and the Search for Meaning."

Polkinghorne is both an Anglican priest Theologian and a mathematical Physicist. He is probably the most widely read participant in the science/religion dialogue. The present work, which summarizes his earlier books, demonstrates how one can be a firmly believing Christian and a scientist at the same time. A highly recomended book by myself another firmly believing scientist. See my website [[...]]

John Polkinghorne is definitely brilliant, but some of his essays are a steep climb for the layman. There are certainly easier reads on science and faith for the general reader. I recommend books by William Lane Craig, Alister McGrath, and John Lennox. I gifted my copy of the Polkinghorne reader to a pastor friend.
