Amanda Owen is a consultant-coach in the areas of spirituality, empowerment, and self-improvement, and has created the transformative Receive and Manifest workshops. Her research over the last twenty years into the nature of receptivity, along with her studies in quantum theory and Buddhism, led her to develop a system that helps people create the lives they want.

For those of you who have believed there's something to this Law of Attraction stuff--that if you can only get your vibration in the right place, you can create the perfect job, relationship, body or financial situation--but notice there's an undeniable gap between what you believe is possible and what you've actually created....don't give up! Amanda Owen's gem of a manual, The Power of Receiving, is so brilliant, original and on target about the workings of both human beings and The Universe they inhabit, that readers will finish this book with a deep and satisfying sense of How Life Itself Actually Works. Within this context, manifesting even dramatic improvements finally starts becoming the naturally-occurring consequence of true self-acceptance--not the result of affirmations, formulas or even sincere intentions.

For those of us who have sincerely struggled to get in positive alignment with our desires, you will be humbled and thrilled to discover how embedded you've been in a substandard to non-existent receiving mode. Owen is gifted and quite creative in getting us to see how much we have normalized non-receiving--in fact, often turning it into a virtue that keeps us feeling hungry, deprived or grabby. Like Freud revealing the degree to which aggressive and sexual impulses were kept unconscious, Owen is a pioneer revealing how our denied receptivity, masked by an almost universal over-valuing in the "giving" department... is the root of much of our lack.

It is a testimony to her own level of awareness that her book is packed with tons of "to-do's" to get one's Receiving Muscle operating, yet the ultimate result is moving us away from the world of Doing into the Land of Being. Owen counsels: Accept all compliments....Go on a complaint fast....

I've been one to give until I'm depleted, yet feel embarrassed when someone gives to me; my energy and resources were painfully out of balance. In this book, Amanda Owen asks, "Who is the Giver and who is the Receiver when we look at the relationship between a butterfly and a butterfly bush?"

The principles and practices in this book worked so quickly, I hadn't even finished reading and applying these ideas when I received the call about an offer to negotiate a draining situation. Five students who had planned to drop my classes suddenly reappeared. Even before direct contact with me, others are responding differently.

Most importantly, I love this new way of seeing myself and my roles. I am responding to life in ways I've never tried before, with results beyond what I imagined.

I bought this book on a recommendation of a friend and because manifesting some cherished dreams is something that I'm actively engaged in bringing about in my life. This book is different in that it has a two-pronged approach: to affirm your importance and nourish your spirit first with exercises like send Cinderella to rehab and embrace your inner monster(s), and then it deals with manifesting. Let me tell you, what a great idea! If you're feeling empty and depleted inside, how on earth can you possibly manifest anything? Plus, the exercises are a blast. Sending Cinderella to rehab should be done by everyone, because it's so much fun and feels so good. Being able to express what you really want without shame is so liberating. Embracing your inner monster (apparently, mine is a diva - who knew?) is tougher because you have to acknowledge aspects of yourself that you don't like, but even that turns out to be OK.
Personalizing your goal (treating it as though it was a person) is a different approach to manifesting as well. Do you respect your goal? Love what the result of it to manifest will be? If there's some inner conflict with that (guilt, not feeling worthy of it), you won't be able to make it happen. What I love about this is if there's some inner conflict about your goal, maybe it isn't what you really want.
Thank you Robert for recommending this book and thank you Amanda for writing this! I can't wait to find out what interesting things will be brought forth in my life as a result of The Power of Receiving.

This book was so eye-opening. It guides you to see all the positive things that are available to you in life that you may not have noticed or passed by - or did not let your self expect. It helps you see how your life can be so much better by a simple re-framing of your experiences and expectations. It is any easy read and really does shift your brain into a more positive mode. It also helps you to see the uselessness of negative thinking. I highly recommend this book - it is for all ages. Might be especially helpful to those in the care-taking field.

I had taken Amanda's receive class and was astonished at the results of allowing myself to receive! Then, over the years, I forgot the lessons and became the "Giver" who couldn't receive again.

This wonderful book has reminded me of the ability we all have to receive in this life. It's done with humor and examples that are easy to relate to. I find myself able to receive again and it feels so very good!

Thank you Amanda for a fabulous tool!
