Book Description

August 4, 2009
Imagine your frustrated four-year-old calming her own anger with a few simple breaths. Picture your fourth grader visualizing an ice blue pillow to cool his hot headaches. Or your worried eleven-year-old improving her concentration by consulting a personal wizard to help with homework.

The Power of Your Child's Imagination will show you how to empower your child with easy, effective, and creative skills for surviving-and thriving-in a stressful world. This indispensable guide provides nine simple tools to help children cope with stress and anxiety by tapping into their imagination to access their own natural strength and confidence. Dr. Reznick illustrates how each tool can be used every day to deal with problems such as:

* Stress-induced headaches and stomachaches
* Phobias, panic attacks, and social anxiety
* Bed-wetting and sleepless nights
* Separation anxiety and fear of the unknown
* Coping with death, divorce, and other losses
* Hurt, frustration, and anger
* Trouble with schoolwork and concentration
* Sibling rivalry and school-yard squabbles

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Practical August 12, 2009
Format:Paperback
Dr. Reznick offers very inspiring and practical tools you can teach your child or yourself for self-soothing, anger management, and coping with the ups and downs of daily living. What I like most is that she goes directly to how to use the methods and doesn't waste time like most authors who somehow feel the need to drag readers through 50-100 pages of speculation on the brain's mechanisms before they (sometimes) deliver the useful tools. Each tool is explained easily and also what to do if it doesn't work immediately with your particular child. What a gift for all of us who have very creative and very intense children.

5.0 out of 5 stars A School Counselor's Dream August 21, 2009
By S. Jaye
Format:Paperback
Dr. Reznick's book, "The Power of Your Child's Imagination is such a perfect book for any school counselor.
I work with the lowest performing children in the Los Angeles School District and am always searching for tools to help these children and their parents. I know they need a safe, calm, peaceful environment to help them understand the pain, grief, loss and trauma that so many experience to have a more successful and thriving emotional and academic life. So many of these children experience ADD/ADHD like symptoms as well as being so angry and acting out at home and in the classroom. I strive to bring activities and games to heighten or stimulate their imagination and to give them as many stress-free and calming moments. This book is a veritable plethora of amazing interventions that are so needed for these children and their parents. It is like I thought to myself everything I have been thinking and dreaming about that would help these kids....and Dr. Reznick put it all into words that are so reader-friendly! Brava Charlotte...Just what I needed to start my school year!
I will share it with all my colleagues and friends,
Sherri Jaye LMFT, PSA and Chairperson of LAUSD's Resource Fair
