About the Author

I have a passion to help others discover their genius and to fulfill it. I have pursued this in teaching communications, conflict resolution, voice improvement, stress management in DC for almost every government agency, teaching acting on the graduate and undergraduate levels part time for 21 years, in my own theatre company in VA for 9 years, internationally, as a life coach for 15 years, in print as a columnist, on radio with a call in show, on TV, and as a wife, mother of 4, and grandmother of 5. As President of Strategies for Living Unlimited, I am an executive leadership coach, strategic planner, organizational development specialist and career coach.

In Palm Coast, FL for four years she developed courses and taught at CMEL, Center for Management and Executive Leadership for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Brought back to the DC area by an FAA middle manager, Jill was a senior advisor at FAA headquarters, until sequestration hit.

Jill spends most of her time: Leading and Coaching Leaders; Asking Challenging Questions; Setting Direction for Others to Grow; Strategic Planning, Discipling others, and facilitating Bible Contemplation.

Her communications company, Strategies for Living Unlimited (formerly Melton Communications Group) has provided training for Congressional Quarterly, TheCapitol.net, almost every government department and many agencies, the admirals of the Coast Guard, several pharmaceutical companies, and individual CEO's.

Before that, Jill founded American Showcase Theatre Company, now Metro Stage, a professional company that won Helen Hayes awards and nominations and she trained over 6000 actors. In 1990 she received their Woman of Distinction Award for her achievements as an entrepreneur and leader.

She earned her MA from New York University in theatre arts and has had seven careers in the DC area including part time teaching for almost every college and university in the DC metro area. Trademarked as Queen of Bargains, she had a column in The Washington Times for five years, a call in radio show on WAVA, weekly features on Channel 7 TV and many personal appearances.

Jill is a wife, mother of four, and grandmother of six.

Jill Kamp Melton is an expert at communication. With her vast and varied experience, she takes the reader by the hand, explains where s/he might be inadvertently missing the mark in their communications and gives practical, easy advice about how to change that. I love her suggestion to "Learn to listen as if it were the oxygen you needed to breathe." Easy read and keep it handy to refer back to it often. Every business should have one of these for each employee!

The Power of the Zip is a valuable asset to me. It has helped me evaluate my role in conflict, and also provided me with strategies on how to mitigate conflict. It has also shed light on how important it is to truly value a person and their experiences. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand interpersonal communication in a deeper more meaningful way. Thank you Ms. Melton!
