Powers That B will be a double disk CD and Vinyl consisting of two separate albums Niggas on the Moon and Jenny Death. The first album, Niggas on the Moon was released as a free digital download over the summer on Death Grips website
This double album is awesome. Unlike Fashion Week and Government Plates, MC Ride's vocals are prominent on most of this album. The first side is a glitchy, bjork sample filled collage of electronic music. The second half is guitar dominant with the instrumentation sounding like a blend of Black Sabbath, Nine Inch Nails, and Nirvana. Although they could stand on their own as two different albums, they compliment each other nicely. As would be expected, the lyrical content is cryptic and dark, and the production value is outstanding. If you enjoyed any of their other albums, then you should get this one. You won't be disappointed.

Since my initial review was entirely speculative (and only half serious), I figured I should replace it with an actual review now that we’ve all heard Jenny Death. After waiting so long for JD, there’s no way it could have lived up to the hype. Except that it did. JD is a brilliant ‘half’ album, and it continues the Death Grips trend of reinventing their sound on each new album while maintaining that essence that is Death Grips.
A number of people have said that N****s on the Moon and Jenny Death are so different that they don’t really belong together in the same “album.” I think this is a little shortsighted. The cerebral lyrics and rhythmic intensity of NOTM creates a perfect counterpoint to the aggressive, loud, rocking music of JD. Each half of the album highlights a different facet of Death Grips as a band. NOTM tends toward obscurity while JD is more easily accessible. I’ve always seen Death Grips as being difficult and immensely enjoyable - simultaneously. The Powers That B perfectly encapsulates this duality.
Each half of the album demands a different mode of listening. JD is great for cranking in the car while cruising down the freeway. The songs leap out of the speakers in a way that affects me on a visceral level. Conversely, NOTM requires a *lot* of attention, and the songs affect me in a more intellectual manner. If I listen to NOTM at, say, the gym, I get annoyed by the chaos and the incessant Bjork samples. If I listen to it at home, I love it because of the rhythmic cacophony and the unusual lyrics.
I’ve always liked the synthetic nature of Death Grips tracks, but the guitars on JD have totally won me over. It’s like they’re embracing the punk and rock aesthetic that was always an undercurrent in their music.Read more ›

Every release they put out is something new and challenging. I wasn't sure where I stood with this album at first. All the hype about "Jenny Death" (the second part of the album) was really dizzying. But I have to say, each time I listen to it, it just gets better and better. It's now my second favorite release from them, just behind The Money Store.
