More About the Author

Darlene Ellison, M.S.
Motivational Speaker
Author

Darlene Ellison has over 20 years of experience in the combined fields of child psychology and business, as well as serving as an avid volunteer in the areas of child abuse and domestic violence prevention. Darlene brings a unique "twist" to victim recovery as a result of her own experiences as the ex-wife of a child predator, arrested in 2005 in an undercover FBI operation of NAMBLA. She has raised her two children, the "secondary victims" in this scenario, to hold their heads high and make a difference in the lives of others. In her efforts to teach parents, grandparents, educators and caregivers about the dangers of child predators, Darlene has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20 and Dateline NBC, as well as in Dallas' D Magazine. In addition, Darlene has appeared in parent education videos for the Catholic Diocese of Dallas' Safe Environment Plan and Dallas Children's Advocacy Center. Her book, "The Predator Next Door...Detect, Protect and Recover from Betrayal" has been awarded both a 2009 IPPY Award Gold Medal in True Crime and a 2010 Next Generation Indie Award Gold Medal in Autobiography. Darlene speaks all over the country on child abuse prevention, as an advocate for victims of child and family violence and as a motivational proponent of overcoming obstacles!

The Predator Next Door: Detect, Protect and Recover from BetrayalDarlene Ellison experienced a very public and horrible nightmare when she discovered that her ex-husband of ten years and father of her children was a pedophile who had just been arrested in an FBI sting. Terrified for her children, reeling from the years of lies, she came to a very dark place. This true story is about how she came back and transformed her and her family's experience into something with meaning. She shares the steps she took - from journaling and prayer to educating herself - in this very practical and gripping guide to betrayal recovery. Even though - luckily! - not that many people have her exact experience, she realized that betrayal is betrayal from spouses cheating, to friends lying and backstabbing and we all need to recover from it to get back to our lives. Betrayal ruins trust and taints relationships beyond the initial incident. Her open account and sharing of her story and journey steps make this a very warm and helpful book. It feels like she is your friend, sitting next to you on the couch. Her book is clear, simple and encouraging. I read it all in one sitting.

The author's openness to speak directly to the betrayal of life's most trusted relationships is incredibly dynamic - it brought to light some of the issues that I had not dealt with - especially with regard to the issue of betrayal recovery - The book has inspired me and given me new courage to dig deep for more freedom and more light. The author bears her soul and then lives intentionally and gathers support to recover from the betrayal and succeed in thriving far beyond the betrayal. The author describes vividly the realities of the dark days that follow betrayal but then outlines practical, personally tried tactics to rise and become deeper, brighter and fuller - all flowing out of the very pain that seemed to threaten the joy of life itself. I have spent many years seeking healing - after reading the book it was like I could see puzzle pieces coming together that allow me to take the knowledge gleaned and live fully as a healthy woman, wife and mother.

Format: Paperback
Darlene Ellison's book is another stark reminder that the worst, most insidious danger to our children, often disguised in deceptively benign wrappings, lies within our own homes, whether through the internet with its seemingly harmless, inauthentic facebook and twitter connections, mainstream television programs with suggestive adult themes, the cheerful delivery person, the beloved teacher. One has only to read the daily paper or turn on the five o'clock news to hear yet one more story of this kind of intimate betrayal. And though Ellison details the worst possible betrayal within her own family, the tone of horrifying revelation in the book turns quickly to the necessity of self-recovery and, most importantly, how to be an effective emotional coach to the children left behind who are trying to sort through, and make sense of, the heinous actions of a trusted family member. Ellison writes in a clear-headed fashion with compassion and, ultimately, with the knowledge that beyond the initial shock of revelation, healing for the family and community can only happen in the light of day.

The Predator Next Door: Detect, Protect and Recover from Betrayal

Darlene Ellison has hit a home run with her personal and up close story about Predator's. But make no mistake about it, this book is not just about predator's that threaten the children in our society. It's also about the human spirit! Darlene is an amazing woman who got knocked down but not out. Her book tells the tragic story of a woman who unbeknowingly married a man who was a predator of children. He looked great on the outside but turned out to be something quite different on the inside.

Darlene's story is proof positive that with God's grace and mercy, we can bounce back from life's toughest blows. Her story is one of faith, love and courage. This book is a real eye opener into the world of predator's. It's a must read for all of us but particularly for any parent or teacher. More importantly the book is an inspiration to anyone who has been blindsided by one of life's hard twists and turns. Darlene took a body blow but with incredible courage she showed us all that we to can trimuph over adversity.

Read Darlene's story and be prepared to be blessed!

This is a book all women need to read, discuss and share with other women. It is a sensitive yet important topic today. It helps us all see noone is immune to tragedy yet overcoming it prevails and can happen. Most of all, reading this book can hopefully help others to see things more clearly upfront and be spared the pain.
