Later in life, Priscilla ran a successful catering business, Unpretentious Catering, which served the corporate community as well as bridal functions. I was worried when I bought this it would be a book about just toppings that you can put on a pretzel but the recipes in it were great! I never thought of stuffing pretzels with so many yummy sounding things before! I bought it as a gift for my dad who loves pretzels but after looking through it I didn't want to give it up!

I'll keep it short: I love this book. The recipes are interesting and delicious. And, most importantly, they're clearly explained and easy to replicate. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for fun cooking ideas.

This is a decent entry-level book for people looking for simple snack and meal ideas. There's one basic soft pretzel recipe plus a few other basic recipes that use different flour. Further recipes add some seasonings for flavor and/or a filling. There are some sandwich recipes, mostly along the lines of "cut the basic pretzel in half and put stuff in the middle". About 55 pages are dedicated to recipes that use the hard snack pretzels you buy in a bag at the grocery store. There are also some recipes for dipping sauces. There are no recipes for hard pretzels.

Unfortunately, there's little here for advanced bakers. None of the pretzel recipes use a starter, and there's no mention at all of using a lye bath. (The recipes do use a baking soda bath.) Some of the sauce recipes are very simple -- honey mustard is "honey", "mustard", and "ground mustard", which are then whisked together.

I guess I was hoping for a different book, one that would help me become a better baker. I wanted more emphasis on the bread and less on the fillings and toppings, along with some advanced recipes for dipping sauces. But if you're just looking for a book with snack ideas for you and your kids, this is probably a good choice.
