Editorial Reviews

Review

"An eloquent, riveting, and eye-opening account of one man's struggle to follow Christ in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Joseph Fadelle's intensely personal story contains powerful lessons about the growing threat to Christians from an increasingly aggressive Islam. His compelling narrative provides indispensable insight into the world behind a wall of coercion and oppression no less imprisoning than that erected by communists in the Cold War. The Price to Pay is at once captivating and illuminating." --William Kilpatrick, Author, Christianity, Islam and Atheism

"Joseph Fadelle's autobiography is a spiritual meditation wrapped in a captivating thriller. For those of us who think of condescending tones and social rejection as religious persecution, Fadelle has given us a glimpse of what it truly means to abandon everything for the gospel. With its contrast between harsh religious bondage and "inebriating" freedom in Christ, The Price to Pay will transform your view of the Christian life." --Jay W. Richards, Ph.D., Discovery Institute, Co-author, Indivisible: Restoring Faith, Family, and Freedom Before It's Too Late

"Headlines increasingly report of violence against Christians in villages and churches in the Middle East and around the world, and persecution of converts who refuse to recant even under threat of death. But seeing the face and hearing the voice of one steadfast convert humanizes the story and gives dignity to believers who are denied their humanity. Joseph Fadelle is that voice and his story is compelling. Christians have been asked throughout history and anew in our time 'What price would you pay for your beliefs?' Fadelle's response is a stunning witness to the radical face and love of Christ." --Sheila Liaugminas, Host, A Closer Look, Network News Director, Relevant Radio

An astounding and inspiring account of a man's life in, and daring escape from, the Islamic world -- I read it overnight and I could not stop reading till I finished it by dawn. What this Iraqi apostate from Islam faced was as bad as or worse than anything Soviet dissidents had to undergo. Yet he persevered. The story gives an intimate and rather terrifying feeling of exactly what it's like to try to survive as a convert to Christianity in Iraq and Jordan -- the brutal prisons, the great danger, the desperate need for secrecy, the totalitarian social pressure exerted even within the family, were more terrible than for dissidents in the former Soviet Union. A riveting story of a man's courageous suffering, miraculous exodus, and ultimate triumph.

I could not put this down! I read it in two days during every spare minute (in between soccer tournament games and family events). Now I normally read around five books at a time, but after I started reading The Price to Pay I put all the rest on hold. The story was that gripping and suspenseful! I really can't recommend this book enough! One of the memorable books of a lifetime!

Since I am an Ex- Muslim , I was waiting enthusiastically to get this book. The author , an Iraqi Shiite who is descended from the prophet himself , risked his life , his family , his wealth, and his country for the sake of Christ. Joseph's woes were not easy at all. He faced many difficulties, and was very close to be killed by his own family. At one point , the highest ayatollah in Iraq was involved making a fatwa against him. His wife and children , who left Islam too, were sharing the tragedies with him. Joseph's dream was to recieve "the bread of life." To achieve his goal he needed to be baptized. Nevertheless , the road to baptism in the middle east is full of obstacles.Bishops and clergymen at some point refused to even listen to the Spiritual needs of Joseph."The price to Pay" , therefore, is an incredible testimony in two ways; first it stresses how much sacrifices a person will make for Christ; secondly , it describes clearly the lack of basic freedom in the middle east.

This book shows the way that the Muslim religion actually is. It shows the experience of someone who just wants to change religion and the terrible consequences associated with it. This book is better than to go to the movies; every page is breath taking. I strongly recommend it.

It is amazing what one man would sacrifice to receive Jesus Christ as his lord and savior. It is also unfathomable what families can do to each other in the name of "religion".

I couldn't put it down. Literally read it in one day. It made me cherish the fact that I was born into the Catholic Faith. What a wonderful man and what a faith filled wife. WOW!

Thank you, Joseph, for writing your book. It seems to me that as Christ asked the Canaanite woman for a drink from the well, that God has asked you to dip into the waters of faith--in such extreme circumstances--to bring the water of His Life to others. One thing that got to me in your book is how, due to the lack of freedom of thought and association within Muslim countries, that horrific and ridiculous lies about Christianity are told within the muslim world and are accepted without question, creating artificial walls and barriers that don't really need to exist on the basis of fact. I think, that when they seek to immigrate to countries of the West, which are basically Christian countries, that (Muslim)immigrants should be required to take a lengthy inculturation course that will debunk the errors and brain washing that they have been subjected to, so that they may better assess whether they want to belong here or not--or whether they simply want to transplant their prejudices and take over America.

We westerners have no concept what a mid-easterner goes through to be able to embrace Jesus. My prayers are with them.
