This essay, based upon the Prince of Wales' keynote address at the Future of Food conference at Georgetown University on May 4, 2011, paints a clear picture of course corrections we need to make without delay to avert looming food insecurity disasters around the world. In it he spells out the necessity of transitioning to local, bio-diverse, human-scaled, community-based organic food production as the sine qua non for our very survival on this planet. Highly recommended.

This is a thoughtful, passionate, well-reasoned argument from the Prince of Wales on the future of our food system. As Wendell Berry suggests in his introduction, Prince Charles has perhaps been the only "eminent person [who] has had both the clarity to see and the courage to speak candidly about the obvious failures and dangers of industrial agriculture." It has taken some courage for him to have this contrarian view, and I appreciate the bravery and intellectual effort that went into this speech.

Brief presentation of food availability issues
I was surprised that the Prince would be writing on this topic. It was concise and impassioned.
