Book Description

A princess is unwillingly transformed into a dragon and now she must learn how to fly! Can Sondra find herself while trapped in the body of a monster?

This is the charming tale of a princess named Sondra who is determined to prove that there are no such things as dragons and magic. Her denial of all things magical leads to her transformation by a grumpy old wizard into a dragon. She must learn how to survive in a body that is not her own with the help of an ancient and intimidating male dragon. Along the way, she discovers that things are never what they appear to be and she must prove herself worthy of a love more magical than anything she has ever denied.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful blend of magic, love and action . . . March 5, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Job well done on a debut novel! If you like romantic fantasy featuring a strong heroine, you won't be disappointed by this one. I purchased this title after reading the sample chapters from the author's website, and I'm so very glad I did. At its core, this book is the untraditional story of a princess and a dragon (Sondra and Tolmac) and their growing love for one another, yet, it is so much more than that. The cast of characters is wonderful, and the author takes her time giving us a glimpse of all of them, even the more minor ones. The world is believable and original and the plot is well worked and flows wonderfully with a few small surprises here and there. The story wraps up very nicely, but leaves the reader yearning for more from the world of Ariva. I'd like to list more details, but I don't want to give the story away :). I only hope that Miss Trombley brings us more novels from this new world and I'm pleased to say that she has joined my growing list of favorite authors.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not great May 22, 2012
By Keepee
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
With respect to the other glowing reviews on here, I don't consider this a 5 star story. That being said, it is a good read with an interesting story line woven with intrigue, betrayal and of course, love.

Part of my biggest problem with this book is not the story line itself, but the way it is written. It seems to vacillate between overly flowerly language and frank language, with a fair amount of grammatical and story inconsistencies (as in- a terrible storm is about to rage, while on the next page the same day is described as an afternoon of sunshine). Descriptions are sometimes confusing and the author drops names into the story without explanation, trusting that you will simply continue to read for an indiscriminate amount of time to find out who and what she is talking about. The beginning of the story is kind of plodding, though I am pleased I did make myself continue on through as it picks up nicely later on.

Overall, it's a fun read, though not one of the most polished stories ever. It is well worth the 99 cents it costs on Kindle and while I didn't find it the captivating read some of the other reviewers seemed to find it, I did enjoy getting to know the characters and I'm sure I will reread this story in the future. I also didn't hesitate to pick up the next story in the series- so if you can make me come back for a second round, it definitely counts as a success.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fantasic read! May 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If I ever lost all of my kindle books, I would definitely re-buy this one.

The story is based around an, at first, extremely annoying princess who doesn't believe in magic (and by annoying I really mean your going to want to put the book down just to roll our eyes). To her everything must have a logical explanation, no matter the price. As with all extremely annoying princesses, she has to learn a lesson, and she does. A wizard turns her into a dragon one night and she is forced to run from angry guards who, not seeing her transformation, believe she is a true dragon out to kill them all, and who feasted on the princess. After this the real story begins, (and a warning to my fellow readers) you wont be able to put the book down until you finish it.

The beginning of the book is pretty slow and for the most part, a little boring. A couple spelling errors pop up from time to time, and time continuation (aka one minute its a storm front coming in, and the next its a bright afternoon sun) These are all easy to ignore (and for the most part they can be found near the beginning). Once you pass the first 4 chapters or so, you've hit gold.

With a bit of fine tuning I would happily buy a published paperback of this book and set it next to my collection of dragon fantasy books (for the record, I think Mrs. Trombley's dragons are officially my favorites now.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Far too good to pass up! BUY IT NOW! April 1, 2012

I absoloutely loved this book! It's fantastic! The writing was captivating and lyrical and the characters were fully developed and wonderful; the storyline and concept were what really drew me in at the start. This book is original and well-thought out with an amazing cast of characters and a gorgeous love story. I could barely put my kindle down and I had to force myself to go to sleep at 3 in the morning. I would recommend this book to anybody as its so enjoyable and fun. I would pay so much more than $0.99 for this book, it is seriously far too good to pass up.

This is what a romance fantasy should consist of. Susan has managed to create a story with extremely well defined characters that allow the reader to really empathize and relate to as the story progresses. Many romance stories prove to be really lax in this area and have stereotypical characters with one-dimensional personalities. Not this one, which is extremely refreshing. The plot is well developed and interesting as well, providing believable and realistic motivations for each character and the events that occur.

Overall, nothing is skimped on. The romance and plot are beyond excellent as well. I wish more authors would take the time and produce well thought out works like this.
