Will the Prisoner comply and help Torren through the inspection? What will he ask in return? And will he keep his word?

The Prisoner is a novella approximately 9,300 words (50 pages). It is Book 1 of The Dark Elf of Syron series. Book 2, The Knight, and book 3, The King, are also available, as well as the combined 3 in 1 edition.

"The Prisoner" by Laura Lond is a fantasy/paranormal novelette about a prisoner who has extraordinary powers. Although technically he is a prisoner, he has the power to leave anytime he chooses. His true reasons for remaining a prisoner are unclear, but the king has ordered that the warden will be executed and the warden's family imprisoned if the prisoner escapes. Therefore, the warden does his best to cooperate with the prisoner's wishes, so as to induce him to stay. The new governor's visit alters things, and the relationship between the prisoner, the warden, and the warden's family is affected.

I was captivated by this story. The author created a fascinating world and characters in a very short piece. My only complaint is that it is too short. It is a complete story and it has a definite conclusion with no cliff hangar, per se, but I wanted more. What led to up to the prisoner being 'captured', why does the king want him imprisoned, why does the prisoner choose to stay imprisoned, what will happen between the prisoner and the warden's daughter, when and why will the prisoner decide to 'escape', what will happen after he 'escapes'? This story was so good and the characters so well drawn, that I wanted it to be a full-length book with all of those questions answered. I hope there will be one in the future. I liked this author's writing and I will definitely try some of her other books.

Rather forgettable. I also would have liked more background about the main character. I would have liked to have seen the relationship between the girl and the prisoner play out.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm hooked! July 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A great start to what seems to be shaping up to a very interesting series! I was immediately sucked right into the story, not wanting to put my Kindle down. I was so excited to have the second book in the series available to read right afterwards because I really did (and still do) want to read more. I love the world created in the story and the characters are really good - it's hard to review just this book now that I've read both. I do wish both books could have been longer though and I'm excited for any more of the story I'll get to read. I definitely recommend this book as well as this series! :-)
