"A dark edgy murder-mystery/romance that will keep you spellbound ...a great debut novel" Night Owl Suspense

...A suspense/psychological thriller that takes you through the inter-workings of a killer and behind the scenes of one agent trying to stop him. Cathy Perkins is a writer to watch out for, and I'm definitely looking forward to what she brings to the table next. Novel Reflections

Perkins puts you inside the head of the villain far better than most - Jax Garren, author

I LOVED IT! This is a thriller, a murder-romance that will keep you tied up until the end.
 I Love Books review blog

From GoogleBooks:
From that first paragraph to the last page the suspense endures, the mystery grows deeper, and the police procedures stay a mainstay in this story line. The author shows how the police investigation progresses, as if she's done one herself. In Mick, she paints a lovable guy whose job is intense, but he's looking for more than just his career and his empty condo from life. Her other police officers are just as true to life, each with their own story.
Cathy Perkins is a debut author who will keep you in a perpetual state of suspense while you are awaiting her next book.

I loved this book! I honestly did not want to put it

We meet Agent Mick O'Shaughnessy at the beginning of the book when his is pulled in as part of a special task force to solve murders that are affecting small town college campuses. Crimes that are so horrific in type, but the killers unique calling card is the only thing that all three victims have in common. Mick and the rest of his task force find themselves working against the clock to stop the next murder from happening, but the killer is getting is getting antsy.

Meg Connelly is our heroine, a strong woman who has had to face much of the world alone. She finds herself placed in Agent O'Shaughnessy's path after a drunken sorority member's actions get reported to the police. Sparks immediately begin to fly between the Agent and the Sorority Advisor, Meg. Having already survived abandonment, Meg tries to resist Mick's advances until it is unavoidable

In the middle of the wonderful tension between Mick and Meg, our murderer begins to get nervous as Mick and his task force start to form a picture of who the killer might be. The Professor begins to make plans to move as he feels the path leading to him, but he will not move without one more kill, and this time it is personal against Mick.

Filled with enjoyable, down to earth characters, and one wonderfully rotten villain who you cheerfully despise, I never felt as if one character upstaged another. The secondary characters are woven into the fabric of the story so fluidly, that I could not see the story's evolution without them.

Cathy Perkins' debut novel, The Professor, from Carolina Press, is a fun, edgy, mystery, romantic must read. I promise you will become an immediate fan and look forward to the next book by Ms. Perkins.

Someone is killing college girls and dumping their bodies. The whole campus has heard the stories. Rules are in place to protect the young women of the local colleges. Meg Connelly is a student, but she's also a teacher too. She works as an advisor to a sorority house too. Meg tries to remind the girls of the safety rules, but doesn't really apply them to herself. She knows she shouldn't be walking alone at night on campus. Mick O'Shaughnessy is called in as an agent to help find this killer. His first investigation however takes a more political turn than he'd like. It's then that he meets Meg. It's as though they can see into each others hearts and minds. Can Mick protect Meg since she won't protect herself?

This book grabs you by the shirt and pulls you in from page 1. It's exciting, action packed and filled with little "bumps in the night" until all is revealed. The love story winding through this book is very real and well written. You learn so much about people that you didn't even realize could be going on behind the scenes.

I found nothing wrong with this one. Kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.

I don't normally read mysteries, but The Professor sucked me in from the first page. Ms Perkins has created an engaging story that constantly keeps the reader guessing what will happen next. The murderer is smart AND creepy...two traits that aren't always mutually exclusive. Mick is the perfect alpaha male, tempered by intelligence, patience and understanding. Meg is driven to succeed, but has learned to hide her vulnerability behind a mask of polite detachment. These two characters not only complement each other, they create enough sensual tension to ignite the pages. I screamed warnings, cheered for, and sighed with heartfelt emotion as Meg and Mick struggled to overcome and survive every obstacle thrown at them...

I, also, do not normally read suspense, but I am glad I did read The Professor. Mick and Meg both with their own issues walked right into my heart. Cathy created those "ah ha!" moments that kept me turning the pages. You know how you watch a suspense TV show and get so caught up in the story you yell at the heroine that the killer is behind the door? Well, that was me reading this book. The climax of the book (don't want to give anything away) had me wishing I could read faster (and I read very fast!) to get to the end and the capture of the killer. I enjoyed MIck's and Meg's love story. I think it is amazing how Cathy wrote a love story with no sex and still kept the sexual tension front and center for both characters. I liked the police procedures. I felt as if I was in the room with Mick and Frank as they went through the investigation. I like a logical story. Meg's refusal to trust Mick resonated with me. I could see how she would reject a relationship after her life experiences. I found the book to be a love story, a mystery, a suspense, a Southern culture story and a journey to finding happiness and who does not want to find happiness? After the last sentence, I just sat back and sighed. It is a great read!!!!!

I loved how this book mixed a murder mystery, a passionate beginning of a new romantic relationship and a real life education about several things/procedures that I found interesting and informative... It was thought provoking on who the ultimate killer was and the interaction between the characters was realistic and passionate...I stayed up late to finish it!
