Book Description

Combat Hospital - Kandahar Airfield
What are the odds? Karen Hughes, an ER nurse, travels half way around the world only to meet someone from the other side of town. Brian Calder, a medevac helicopter pilot, breezes into her life like a refreshing ocean spray. Both from Vancouver Island, they find that they share much in common, and soon become an "item" in the closely knit medical community of KAF. Karen's tour of duty is up in a few weeks, and Brian will follow shortly, but now that he has so much to lose, he becomes concerned for his safety. He's been carrying his grandmother's ring, and uses his considerable charm to convince Karen that she she should take it with her when she returns home and give it to his grandmother.
Join Karen on a heartbreaking and ultimately satisfying journey as she searches for love from the heat and grit of Kandahar to the cool mountains and endless beaches of Vancouver Island.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Ms Ingram created a wonderfully touching story of love with great characters and setting. The twists of the two love stories pull the reader through the story into a fulfilling ending. If you're looking for a great summer read, THE PROMISE will deliver."

"I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it's a very quick read, and has a good storyline. The characters are done fairly simplistically, but I think that's good, because trying to go much further in depth could have turned this into a book 3 times the length. This is a feel good story, but it's not afraid to call people bad and I think that's difficult to combine so I think the author did a good job."

"Thoroughly enjoyed this. First time for this author but I will definitely be reading more of her books. Nice romance, clean story, good plot."

From the Author

This book was inspired by a documentary I saw on the Combat Hospital at Kandahar Airfield, and my imagination was off! I wanted a chance to tell a story outside of the usual restrictions of contemporary romance. This is a realistic story of wartime and touches on the heartbreak of those who have lost family members.
But it wouldn't be a romance without a happy ending. Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars A well told story. December 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A short but well developed story with realistic and interesting characters. The story was very moving and well executed. I liked the fact that the romance storylines involved both young and old. The romantic encounters were not too explicit which is rare with most modern romance stories. I could not find anything to fault on this book. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant story with a fast ending September 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the beginning of the story. I firmly believe that things happen for a reason and when they are meant to be. It was great to read about places in Canada that my MOm mentioned when I was growing up. The ending of the story was short, rushed and made it less believeable for me. To all those that have served-Thank you for your bravery.

Mona Ingram has the ability to create some of the sexiest and some of the sweetest romances. Promise Me is an incredibly sweet romance that is perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon. It was truly a feel-good romance that hopeless romantics, like myself, are going to love. If you love women's fiction and heart-felt romance, grab this one.
