Review

“This is the most important book I have ever read. . . . Now I can do no less than give my remaining years to its message.” (Joseph Chilton Pearce, author of The Crack in the Cosmic Egg and The Biology of Transcendence)

The Prophet’s Way produces its own butterfly effect: the simple act of reading it can change your life.” (Michael Hutchison, author of Mega Brain Power and The Book of Floating)

“Thom Hartmann is an absolutely original mind, with an original way of looking at the world: he has made an enormous contribution to our culture.” (Owen Lipstein, former editor in chief of Psychology Today and Mother Earth News)

“This book represents the path of a spiritual initiate and the signposts he met along the way. We Coptics are honored that Thom’s path included Hamid Bey and Master Stanley, two great lights of the 20th century.” (John Davis, director of the Coptic Fellowship)

“Thom Hartmann is one of the great adventurers of our time, both in the world at large and the world of ideas.” (Jill Neimark, journalist and author of Bloodsong)

“Thom Hartmann has a capacity to go to the essence of things. He does so with power and beauty.” (Wayne Teasdale, author of The Mystic Heart: Discovering a Universal Spirituality in the World’)

The Prophet’s Way draws you in like a novel, keeping you on the edge waiting to see what happens next, yet is a true story. Like a painting by a great master that was painted over and hidden for centuries, Thom Hartmann peels away the layers of distortion heaped on original visions of religion and faith which existed 2,000 years ago, revealing once again the essence of humanity, spirituality, and mysticism. This book helped me make a major change in my life for the better.” (Rob Kall, coauthor of Biofeedback Theory & Practice; founder of FUTUREHEALTH, Inc.)

“Thom Hartmann exposes many of the ugly truths hiding beneath the surface of contemporary ‘civilization.’ Hartmann’s book masterfully combines autobiography, science, and Christian spirituality and shows us how to rehabilitate our world with acts of compassion rooted in spiritual humility and faith in the Creator of all creatures and cultures. Easy to read, hard to practice.” (Jay Fikes, Ph.D., author of Carlos Castaneda: Academic Opportunism and the Psychedelic Sixties and R)

“If you do not think that one person can do much--can do enough--to make a real difference, I urge you to read The Prophet’s Way. It will inspire and excite you. For it will show you in real life terms just what one person can do, and lift you to a place of new determination to play your rightful role in the Creation of Tomorrow.” (Neale Donald Walsch, author of Conversations with God)

“Thom Hartmann is one of those people who puts it all together for us, explaining not only what has seriously gone wrong in the world but, even more important, all that can still go right. He is an awakener of the highest order.” (Marianne Williamson, author of A Return to Love and Everyday Grace)

--Wayne Teasdale, author of The Mystic Heart: Discovering a Universal Spirituality in the World’s Religions and A Monk in the World

In the course of his work for the charitable organization Salem, Thom Hartmann personally witnessed famine in Uganda, chaos in Russia, and genocide in Colombia--all signs that modern cultures have lost the connection to the sacred, both within and without, that was emblematic of older cultures. To truly flourish, the human spirit needs to be present in its surroundings and attuned to the Now. It needs to act on what it knows is possible and to experience how the smallest actions can have massive consequences. This is the reality of the Prophet’s Way, a path--both literal and figurative--that the author walked with his spiritual mentor Herr Müller that skirts the edge of the precipice, where one can experience a truly spontaneous life under seemingly overwhelming and impossible circumstances.

In The Prophet’s Way, Thom Hartmann shares his intense spiritual journey, a story that melds recent discoveries in science with ancient truths. Through insightful and engaging vignettes Hartmann teaches that accepting the challenge to have faith means living on the edge--remaining in the moment--because it is here that the material and spiritual worlds meet. He offers readers a unique view into his experiences of expanded consciousness, providing a powerful example of how we can re-create our future by reconnecting to the sacred heartbeat of the world.

THOM HARTMANN is the award-winning, bestselling author of over a dozen books, including The Edison Gene, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight, and Unequal Protection. A former psychotherapist and founder of the Hunter School, a school for children with ADHD, he lives in central Vermont.

More About the Author

Thom Hartmann is the four-time Project Censored Award-winning, New York Times best-selling author of 23 books currently in print in over a dozen languages on five continents.
Hartmann is also an internationally known speaker on culture and communications, an author, and an innovator in the fields of psychiatry, ecology, and economics.
The co-founder (with his wife, Louise) and former Executive Director of The New England Salem Children's Village (1978) and The Hunter School (1997), he has led national innovations in the areas of residential treatment for abused children and private/public education for learning-disabled children.
He has helped set up hospitals, famine relief programs, schools, and refugee centers in India, Uganda, Australia, Colombia, Russia, and the United States through the German-based Salem International program. Formerly rostered with the State of Vermont as a psychotherapist, founder of The Michigan Healing Arts Center, and licensed as an NLP Trainer by Richard Bandler (who wrote the foreword to one of Thom's books), he was the originator of the revolutionary "Hunter/Farmer Hypothesis" to understand the psychiatric condition known as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD).
A guest faculty member at Goddard College in Vermont, he also synthesized the "Younger/Older Culture model" for describing the underpinnings - and possible solutions - to the world's ecological and socio-political crises, suggesting that many of our problems are grounded in cultural "stories" which go back thousands of years.
Leonardo DiCaprio was inspired by Thom's book "The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight" to make the movie "The 11th Hour" (in which Thom appears), and Warner Brothers is making a movie starring DiCaprio and Robert De Niro from the book Thom co-authored with Lamar Waldron, "Legacy of Secrecy."
Talkers Magazine named Thom Hartmann as the 8th most important talk show host in America in 2011, 2012, and 2013 (10th the two previous years), and for three of the past five years the #1 most important progressive host, in their "Heavy Hundred" ranking. His radio show is syndicated on for-profit radio stations nationwide by Dial-Global, on non-profit and community stations nationwide by Pacifica, across the entire North American continent on SiriusXM Satellite radio, on cable systems nationwide by Cable Radio Network (CRN), on its own YouTube channel, via Livestream on its own Livestream channel, via subscription podcasts, worldwide through the US Armed Forces Network, and through the Thom Hartmann App in the App Store. The radio show is also simulcast as TV in realtime into nearly 60 million US and Canadian homes by the Free Speech TV Network on Dish Network, DirectTV, and cable TV systems nationwide.
His evening TV program, The Big Picture, is wholly owned by his own production company, produced in the RT studios, and licensed to and carried by Free Speech TV in the US, and into over 600 million homes in 104 countries via broadcast and cable by the RT TV network, and distributed worldwide on the web on Hulu.
As an entrepreneur, he's founded several successful businesses which still are operating, and lived and worked with his wife, Louise, and their three (now adult) children on several continents.
He was born and grew up in Michigan, and retains strong ties to the Midwest, although he and Louise have lived in New Hampshire, Vermont, Georgia, Germany, and Oregon...and now live on a boat in Washington D.C. with their attack-cat, Higgins.

The Prophet's Way affirms in a very positive way that one person can make a difference -- and that miracles are at the end of your fingertips. This is not your typical new age personal re-invention story. Spiritual more than "religious", Hartmann's work shows what is really meant by the kingdom of Heaven being within, and how miracles are already all around us, if we but have the eyes to see them and the courage to bring them to life. If you're one who is inspired by the Sermon OnThe Mount, if you believe in the way of compassion and service, you will be blown away by the courageous story of Hartmann's growth in spirituality and the personal as well as world-affecting miracles that can occur when one simply takes up one's mat and follows Him. You will find a new and more pertinent understanding of what it means to be reborn.

Truly an inspirational book. An excerpt of this man's life that helped me realize that there is so much more to life. It helped me realize how lucky I really am to live where I do, when I do.

Don't read this if you don't care to be moved. It may just put you on a path to help improve this world. I know it did for me. Once your eyes are opened you can't turn back. I suppose it was my little red pill. I am now free from the matrix.

I'd HIGHLY recommend this book!! It led me to make big changes in my life.

Thom Hartmann openly shares his experiences of walking on the spiritual path, from first faltering steps to meeting his mentor and beyond. He is open and honest about his mistakes and his doubts, which makes his story easy to relate to.

The adventures of Hartmann and his colleagues through India, Russia, America and Europe made me alternately laugh, cry and shake my head in disbelief.

Having read this book, I travelled to a conference to meet the author as well as many of the 'characters' he wrote about. I assure you, they are all real, they are often larger than life, and they ARE working together to make a difference in the world.

I found this book impossible to put down (and I'm usually easily distracted!). This book inspired me enough to travel abroad (for the first time on my own) to Germany (I don't speak any German) to Stadsteinach (where??) to meet some of the people that make this extraordinary charity work. I have since been introduced to an amazing group of people who are all working for good, without the dogma of any organised religions hanging over their heads.

Truly amazing.

The humble author takes the readers for a wonderful journey into spirituality and enlightenment. The gist of the book is that small acts to mercy can and do change the world. Even a seemingly insignificant change as picking up a lost earthworm in wee hours of the morning so that it does not get trampled upon later during the day, can ignite a spark and change the world for good. My life has been forever touched and my spiritual eyes have been opened. I have moved over to the other side, so as to speak, the side of more spiritual and less material. Two other unforgettable books by Mr Hartmann, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight and Unequal Protection. Get them, read them, distribute among friends and loved ones.

This is a heart felt, inspirational real life journey by the author and his spiritual mentor Herr Mueller a German Christian mystic. Their journeys together working for Salem (peace) in creating homes for abandoned and disabled children in some of the worst areas of poverty and misery from Africa to Russia are both heartwarming and awe-inspiring and leave you feeling glad that there are souls out there who care enough to act.

This is a wonderful book. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

The Prophets Way has been a guidance for me when I wasn't so sure about which path to take in life. It is a spiritual book but it is also a book about practical and meaningful help one can give to other people. If somebody is looking for what makes sense in life - here are very good examples.
