Book Description

The Protein Express Diet is a proven protein-intensive, low-carb diet with a strong emphasis on fast and easy food preparation. It is a rapid weight loss diet that is ideal for busy people who often find themselves relying on fast food or processed, easy-to-prepare meals.

The Protein Express Diet offers a simple 5-step plan for rapid weight loss, as well as a specific strategy for avoiding weight regain once reaching your goal. The book is full of tips, techniques and strategies that can be used either independently or in conjunction with nearly any other low-fat or low carb diet.

The book also covers exercise and thermal weight loss techniques, and introduces a revolutionary way to burn more calories while walking.

The book is concise (but still book-length at over 150 pages if printed) and includes these chapters:

Chapter 1: Overview of Macronutrients and The Importance of Protein

* Explains the role of the macronutrients: carbohydrates, fat and protein. Also covers the role of the hormone insulin, and explains the critical role of protein.

* Includes an overview of low-carbohydrate, protein-intensive diets, the advantages of these diets, and why they work.

Chapter 2: The Protein Express Diet

* Gives specific instructions for creating highly nutritious, affordable and easy to prepare protein-intensive meals.

* Covers a simple 5-step plan for using the Protein Express Diet to achieve rapid weight loss -- and then keep the weight off forever.

* Alternatively, shows how to use the Protein Express Diet in conjunction with virtually any other diet.

* Covers the Protein Express Diet for vegans or vegetarians.

* Offers suggestions for breaking a fast food and snack habit.

* Provides a specific strategy for “drawing a line in the sand” regarding weight gain once you get into the maintenance phase of your diet, and provides a highly effective and proven technique for taking immediate action so you can stop yo-yo weight gain in its tracks.

Chapter 3: Exercise

* Introduces walking as an exercise and explains why it is the most effective choice for a on-going exercise plan that you are likely to stick with over time.

* Offers specific tips for making walking more enjoyable and tools to help select an outdoor route.

* Describes an innovative way to “turbo charge” your walking so that you can burn more fat and develop more muscle without the need to invest more time. This technique does not require any extra equipment or expense and will work with either outdoor or treadmill walking.

* Offers tips on developing a very simple and very fast (as little as 10 minutes per workout) plan for using weight training to retain muscle mass during weight loss and build muscle and strength over the long term.

* Includes the basic facts -- supported by real research -- that you need to know in order to develop quick and easy workouts that you are more likely to stick with. This section is NOT geared toward bodybuilding or people who want highly intensive training, but rather those who want to stay fit with the absolute minimum investment of time and energy.

Chapter 4: Thermal Weight Loss Techniques

* This chapter provides an overview of some relatively new ideas on the impact of temperature on weight loss.

5.0 out of 5 stars You should try it before deciding it's not for you July 21, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
When I consider buying something, I check the best reviews and I also check the worst and medium reviews. And I did that before buying this book. So here's the real story about this book.

Many or most of the worst reviews have something to do with it being a blank book or only available for a Kindle or something like that. Clearly, those people had some kind of problem downloading it or something. I ordered the paperback book and I received a paperback book (103 pages). You can basically disregard the bad reviews that talk about that issue.

Now, as for the content of the book... Yes, it is about substituting some meals with smoothies/protein shakes. When I first read that, I thought it was pretty lame since part of the title is "Simple and Easy Meal Preparation". So you might buy the book expecting "meal preparation" ideas - you're not expecting it to tell you to use meal replacement shakes. In my mind, I was remembering back to the 80s when I knew some people using one of the commercially available shake products like Slimfast. So it didn't seem like anything new but what the heck, it's not an expensive book so I ordered it anyway to see if I could get something from it since some people were having success with it. FYI, it appears to be a book that was self-published by someone who came up with this plan on his own and has used it to keep weight off for many years.

When I got it and read through it, I had a similar reaction to some of the other people who complain that it's nothing new, it's about protein shakes, etc. And I almost posted a rather negative review here because of it. But then I thought I shouldn't do that without at least trying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed! May 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm a 50 year old mother of 2 (18 & 15) ; a music teacher working with elementary aged kids... Following a hysterectomy 3 years ago I started to gain weight and my self esteem was taking a real dive. So, in January I decided to return to the gym. I had been dieting and exercising almost every morning for several months and had lost 11 lbs, when I hit the dreaded plateau! 3 weeks... no loss. So I started to research and found this book. After the first 2 days I had dropped 6 pounds and one clothing size. At the end of the first week I had dropped an additional 3 pounds for a total of 9 in one week. 4 other women at the gym noticed that I was looking thinner and asked what I was doing. I shared the basics of the plan and within two days they had purchased the book and started on the plan, most with similar results. After the first week (which was easy to follow as I watched the inches & weight melt away), I moved on to phase 2 & 3 of the plan and while the loss has slowed... it is still moving in the right direction and I do not feel in any way like I'm hungry, or missing out on an occasional "treat".

If you are struggling to loose weight ... this might be just what you are looking for. I hope it works as well for you as it has for me!

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT GOOD August 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I couldnt think of a better title. It's just not good. this is someone with no education or expertise in nutrition other than "I lost 70 lbs a really long time ago and kept it off"
Here's the book -
1. eat lots of lean protein, substitute some meals with a protein powder/water/green powder/psillium(sp?) drink, add some vegggies at dinner and dont eat fruit - it has too much sugar.
2. exersize - walk mostly, do it really fast or in intervals. lift some weights on occasion...do it in really cold weather and you *might* burn more calories.
3. one you reach your goal, if you gain more than X number of pounds, have a plan to lose it.
Seriously - that's the entire book. Dont waste your money. Not even worth 2.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple for Lazy Ppl Like Me March 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I love the simplicity of this diet and the common sense a lot of us dont have when we'er going though our weight loss/gain cycles. I am 26 and would like to maintain a weight that I'm happy with for years by the time I'm 30. Anyways, to cut to the chase, I have just completed my 3rd day losing 5 pounds and 1.25 inches around my thighs. I have had almost no cravings, besides a few very weak ones. I believe I have a sensitivity to carbs, causing very strong cravings I eventually give into. I plan on experimenting with the authors 2 maintenance options to see what works best for me.

One piece of advice: taking a B-Complex vitamin for energy if you need it. I take the liquid form (it cost about $2.50/month).

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Where's the rest of the book?!? Soooooo disappointing. I was expecting recipes or at least a plan, this is a book of basic guidelines. A how to but you're on your own. I was looking for a weeks worth of suggestions, instead you get a re-itteration of the very basic Glycemic index(which you can Find at glycemicindx.com). What a waste of space. Disappointed in myself for buying this. Again this is all my opinion.

Wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Thought there might be recipes and a diet. It was neither, all it did was talk about the diet and compared it to the Atkins diet.

Very informative and motivating. A great program for someone able to worry about meals for him or herself. Not sure if good for a family of five.
