5.0 out of 5 stars Epic and moving February 6, 2008
Format:MP3 Music
As a Megaman fan since I first picked up an NES controller, I purchased this largely as a novelty, expecting some humorous references to my favorite video games ever.

Instead, what I got was an incredibly deep, richly woven, and perfectly produced rock opera, who's emotional explosive ending left me feeling more than a little choked up. The prevailing message of society's selfish cowardice, reflected in their faith in disposable heroes ties each song together, as the tension and drama builds, as the story of Megaman is expounded upon with great skill and care.

Whether you are a fan of Megaman, or just hard-rocking, storytelling music, this album will leave an impact on you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mega Man was originally called Rock Man for a reason... February 2, 2008
Format:MP3 Music
The indie band The Protomen tour the country on their Protobus, calling their live shows "battles" and declaring war against their sworn foe: Dr. Wily.
The story of Mega Man has never been so deep as it is on this, Act I of what will hopefully be a multi-part rock opera based on the struggle of the Capcom character. It's a story of hope, death, rebirth, battle, betrayal, and judgement. The genre is nearly undefinable, except to say it ROCKS.
Vengeance, alone, will make you want to fight an army of robots with your bare hands.
The whole album is closed out with Epilogue: Due Vendetta, a song with lyrics consisting entirely of the names of Mega Man characters. And somehow The Protomen make this sound awesome.
But the whole story isn't really just about Mega Man--it's a template for any struggle against the machines of society, and a call for free men to stand up for themselves, without waiting for someone bigger or stronger to stand up for them.
One more note: This album is filled with 100% original music, not lyricized versions of souped-up NES themes. These are real instruments, with real power behind them.
Listen, be inspired, and wonder if there are any heroes left in man.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Protomen Rock My World April 8, 2008
Format:Audio CD
This Protomen created an amazing thing here. The tracks tell such a powerful story that I believe it's necessary to listen to the whole thing. This is not one of those situations where you should buy an mp3 of a song or two. You want this album. I only wish there was more, but to be honest, I can't really see what else they could do with this subject matter.
