About the Author

Melanie and her husband, also a writer, live in the California Gold Country with their cat (also a writer who has a page on myspace) and their dog (who is hoping to get a page on facebook as soon as she masters typing). Melanie likes gardening but hates the deer who also like her garden, and she volunteers at a local animal shelter.

More About the Author

Melanie has been writing her entire life. In fact, one of her earliest fond memories is receiving an IBM Selectric typewriter for her birthday. After publishing romance novels (Scottish historical and paranormal) for New York based publisher Dorchester Publishing from 1999 to 2010, Melanie chose to begin self-publishing cozy mysteries. Since then she has released the Chloe Boston, Butterscotch Jones, Wendover House, Kenneth Mayhew and Miss Henry Mystery series.

Melanie Jackson is the award-winning author of more than eighty novels, novellas and poems published in various languages. She lives with her writer husband and her bossy cat in the Sonoma wine country. Besides gardening, she is involved with animal charities.

This is the second Chloe Boston Mystery, and I liked it so much better than the first. The book is humorous, the protagonist is intelligent and quite funny, and the story of an unknown murder victim at a Halloween Haunted House is good. The small town of Hope Falls is well-described, and Chloe's desire to solve the murder is admirable considering her personal fears and that she is a meter maid and not a detective. Her interactions with her family and new boyfriend are entertaining. Her love for her dog, Blue, is evident and sweet. The formatting for the Kindle was very good. I am so glad I continued with this series, and I'm really looking forward to Book 3.

I reviewed this book for my blog Ruminations from an Unkempt Mind, and I felt that the book is worthy of reviewing for the rest of the world as well.

I really love Chloe Boston (protagonist). I think that if she existed in the real world, she and I would be friends. I thoroughly enjoy her thought processes, as well as the stories that surround her.

This book is well-written and well-edited. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries. Before reading this book, however, I would suggest that you read the first book in the series: Moving Violation (A Chloe Boston Mystery Book 1). If you love cozies, you won't be disappointed.

Well, ta for now, as I am off to read Death in a Turkey Town (A Chloe Boston Mystery Book 3), the third book in the series.

I'm always looking for new mystery series but this really isn't the one for me. The story was simple (actually there are two stories going on at the same time). One is about a pumpkin thief (someone is stealing pumpkins from peoples gardens, porches, yards) and then there is a murder that has a sorted background to it which includes incest, greed, anger, etc.
I though the author, Melanie Jackson, has a rather witty style to her writing overall and the dog named Blue as her sidekick was an endearing addition but the one thing that stayed in my mind was her choice of words that she used to describe some parts of the story. The idea of a TV news person "masturbating" with the microphone just turned me off. I think the author could have used other words to describe that scene. It came out of the blue and had a "blue" connotation to it that frankly colored this whole story for me. I'm not sure if the author thought this was another "witty" way of describing scenes and situations but it did not work. The format of the book was odd. It reminded me of a manuscript in progress rather than a completed one that is published. Again, I thought the story really had no depth and the characters did not seem to pop out of the pages and were not well developed. It was a rather disappointing read. I will not read anything else in this series.

Not much left to say after my review on the first Chloe Boston book. This is a spectacular new series, new heroine. Chloe is highly likable, and Melanie Jackson has really found Chloe's voice by this second installment in the series. The characters you fell in love with the first book (or love to hate, like Althea) just make you love them more in this book. I was iffy on the new chief in the first book, but now I really like him, as he's learning to respect Chloe more and more with each installment.

Great book! I highly recommend this series! You'll fall in love, too!

I have read the Chloe Boston Mysteries through book 4, and this one is no exception! Great central character and supporting characters. The mysteries and whodunnits are great too. You can't take these books too seriously so just relax and enjoy! I love the main character's dog too...I feel warm and fuzzy every time I read one. When I finish one I'm kinda sad and want more...

I loved Moving Violation so much and was excited to read this next book in the series. Chloe and Blue have won my heart for sure. This is book is a great example of a true cozy mystery.

The Pumpkin Thief is well written and the characters are very well developed. I love getting to know Chloe better. There is a lot of humor in the book and a romance gaining momentum. Even better to me is the humor that just flows so naturally from the character's personalities. To me, this is the perfect Halloween cozy mystery and one of the the best I've read. The storyline is a really good one, but I won't say too much more so I won't spoil it for other readers.

I will certainly be reading all of Chloe's future escapades. If you're looking for a light-hearted, fun mystery, perfect for a rainy or snowy afternoon, this book is a great choice--even if it's not Halloween. You just can't go wrong with Chloe and Blue!

The Pumpkin Thief (A Chloe Boston Mystery Book 2)

This second book in the series was a great cozy. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. In "The Pumpkin Thief" we learn a lot more about Chloe's character as well as her parents. Now I want to know what she will do next! I'm glad there are more books in the series because I would love to spend more time sleuthing with Chloe and Blue. If you like cozy mysteries, read this series.
