Book Description

The Purple Passport to London is the first in a newly launched series of eBook city guides by The Purple Passport. Essential reading for hip, discerning travelers and on-the-go locals, the guide provides insider tips on over 150 handpicked London venues, covering hotels, nightlife, restaurants, shopping, sights, and spas.

The carefully curated selection of venues runs the gamut from historic hotels dripping in chandeliers to artfully down-at-the-heel gastropubs; from fashion-forward department stores where A-listers desirously prowl the designer collections to bohemian markets where plucky fashion students hawk their latest creations; from Zen spas hidden in unmarked townhouses to the private homes of eccentric Londoners turned intriguing museums; and from regal gardens where queens take tea to exclusive lounges where partying princes strut their stuff on the dance floor. Organized by neighborhood for easy navigation, The Purple Passport to London also includes helpful maps and city-orienting info about transportation, customs, and seasonal highlights.

The Purple Passport to London will soon be joined by eBook travel guides for Paris and other cities found on The Purple Passport’s website. Users of the website can also take advantage of the site's unique functionality features, including mapping and trip planning tools. Founders Jennifer Garcia-Alonso and Emily C. Brands launched The Purple Passport in 2010 with online guides to London, Beijing, and Los Angeles, and Palm Beach and Paris guides followed in 2011; guides to New York and Washington, DC are forthcoming.

The Purple Passport team personally visits every spot that it reviews and never accepts compensation for featuring a venue on the site or in its eBooks. First-person accounts of the team's travel experiences can be found on the companion blog, The Diary of The Purple Passport.

2.0 out of 5 stars Okay, Same 'old, Lousy Maps June 2, 2012

Less of a travel guide, and more of a how-to girls' weekend out, I wished it had been a little clearer in its description. I don't quite know who would spend several thousand bucks to travel to London just to shop and flounce around, but evidently people do. This guide is light on information about major sites, and heavy on shopping and posh parlors. The book is okay, nothing wrong with the writing, but putting it kindly, it's very, very light. Maps in the Kindle edition are terrible - you can click them to zoom in, but the resolution is terrible. You can't even read the street names.

2.0 out of 5 stars Less Than Impressed May 26, 2012

Purple Passport to London left me wondering ... wondering who spends thousands of dollars to travel to other countries and spends all their time shopping and going to clubs. If this is your thing, then this is the travel guide for you. The reviews of the posh hotels, spas, and restaurants were helpful so you know the places to avoid unless you wish to bring home a credit card debt the size of the Grand Canyon. Almost as an afterthought, the authors throw in a few reasonably priced venues to perhaps validate this book as a travel guide. The redeeming thought to this guide is that it was less than the price of a latte, although it left a bitter aftertaste.

The guide itself is OK. Offering acceptable bunch of information regarding the price.

On the downside I don't understand why some reviewers leave some overexcited reviews on this book since its not really a milestone in history as reviewers try to point out...

So I clicked on some of the overexcited reviews and was left wondering of the quality of those reviews...

Why is someone buying all the travel guides of this series and hurray's on every single book as he did just find live on mars?

Could be a wrong guess, but i expect some of the reviews are made up.

But judge yourself.
