I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Purple Quest. I got interested in finding out more about the founding of Carthage after reading about Hannibal. The characters were well developed and the plot was well paced. Sometimes books in this genre can become boring because it's difficult to relate to the historical references. I did not have any problems with The Purple Quest.
As a matter of fact, I'm going to check out other books by Frank Slaughter.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in ancient history.

As a bibliophile, with an avid Phoenician interest, especially in their purple dye quest, this historical fiction is one of the best books yours truly has had the pleasure of reading! It led me to its inspiration The Aeneid, which I purchased this morning! Having visited the site-s mentioned, enhanced my experience as I thoroughly found pleasure in the little jewel!

Excellant historical story of the discovery of how the dye purple was discovered. First they used mussels but they ran out of mussels and then quite by accident they discovered........I'm not going to disclose it and ruin it for you. Buy this small book, you'll be glad you did. I passed it on to my neighbor who loves Greek Myths. Happy reading!

If you like history novels about real world places, people, and things, you might find this a good read.

Small spoiler..... Local ruler of what is now called Libya / Numidia rewards hero with "as much land as can be contained inside / underneath a cow hide. Hero takes the cow hide and uses a very sharp razor to peel the cow hide into a very very long leather strip........
