Book Description

October 25, 1998 0201604612 978-0201604610 1
The C Puzzle Book is an excellent choice for all programmers who want to expand on their basic knowledge of the C programming language. Completely compliant with ANSI C, this book has been designed to help readers gain a more thorough understanding of the C syntax and semantics through interesting puzzles that challenge the readers' proficiency with the basics. C programming specialist Alan Feuer covers major topics of C from different angles so the reader may gain a more complete understanding for the subject. He accomplishes this by including a variety of C program puzzles, challenging you to follow the puzzle through to determine the outcome. In many cases the programs are print statements, so the puzzle solution is the resulting printout. Once you have determined the puzzle solution, you may compare it with a detailed, step-by-step derivation offered in the book. The C Puzzle Book teaches intermediate C programming with an effective and unique method -- and it's fun! Working through formidable puzzles and checking your results fine tunes your skills for future programming challenges. This book is a great next step for any programmer who desires a deeper understanding of the C programming language. 0201604612B04062001

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any C Programmer February 16, 2002
By David I
Format:Paperback
If you really want to understand the ins and outs of the C programming language, work through the examples in this book. I first read the first edition back in the mid 80s and still remember the lessons - and make practical use of them today.

Really covers the traps of C syntax and how to use pointers properly. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful For CompSci Students December 8, 2002
Format:Paperback
I recently purchased this book and I found it an excellent way to test knowledge of C programs. The book gives you some progreams and functions then asks you to follow the program and determine the output.
I do not know about other computer majors, but my the tests in my classes always include, what does the following function print out, or something to that effect, then you have to go through 2 or 3 loops to figure it out, which can be a bit tricky.
This book is exactly what you need if you are in that type of class, it will really help you with those questions and just generally increase your understanding of the C language.
Not to mention, it's really like a puzzle and not a test, so in that way it is more fun that frustrating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Worn Out C Book I Own March 7, 2001
Format:Paperback
My old 1982 copy of The C Puzzle Book has always been my favorite C book. Without exception, it has proved useful many times over the years. Now, I have several more copies on order to put into our technical library at work and onto the desks of our more junior programmers.

This is a great book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was kind of disappointed with this book. Many of the examples seemed not really that relevant to real-world C programming. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Elementary Reader
This book is more of an elementary reader that covers the basic concepts. The name is misleading and the reviews by readers are even more misleading. Disappointed.
