Book Description

Twelve-year-old Marshall Thompson's favorite place in the world is Luke's Junk Store. With one more trip in before school begins, he's intent on finding the perfect thing to take with him on his first day back. But his "great find" ends up being a girl -- and a friendship begins that will change him forever.

Together, they share a love of puzzles and something else: sickness. With his asthma, and her in cancer recovery, they're linked as kindred spirits. But when a life-changing incident threatens their friendship, Marshall has to learn to pick up the pieces to his broken puzzle of life ... and put them back together.

The Puzzle Master is a story of friendship, love, forgiveness and hope; issues that surround us at the youngest of age. Through Marshall's tragedies and triumphs, he learns to accept change and overcome his trials even when they seem insurmountable.

  • Engrossing story, with engaging characters. This novel could stand beside Bridge to Terebithia in a classroom -- it's that good.-- Goodreads Review

5.0 out of 5 stars The Puzzle Master February 19, 2012

I just finished reading Heather Spiva's book, The Puzzle Master, for young adults. I am a grandmother and I read all books before I give to my grandchildren, and I would recommend this book for adults as well as young adults. It is a wonderful story, and I hesitate to say more as I don't want to spoil the ending. It kept my interest and I finished it in one afternoon. I can't wait for Heather to write her next book. This is definitely an award winning story. I loved it. Her characters are so real.

Written for young adults but still enthralling for adults. This book captures the life of a middle boy who becomes the puzzle master, with the help of his friend who gives him insights about himself and life. Great character development and inspiring story. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! March 8, 2012
By Carolyn
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Once I started reading it, I hated to put it down! It kept me entertained, and I felt pulled into the story as if I were there watching it all unfold.

I have a son who is 10 years old and this would be a great book for him to read as well. I can't wait for him to read it so we can have a book talk about it.

I hope Heather has more stories inside of her to tell because I would love to read more of what she has to share.

This book was read by both my children and they loved it, unfortunately it is not testable for AR reading. Don't understand why not, it is an excellent book.
