One of the best cds in the world,
By Freesefan (Augusta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Quickening (Audio CD)
this cd is the outcome of putting a really good guitarist, bassist, vocalist, and one of the best drummers on the face of the earth and a couple of hillarious lyrics in a band together.
Stop smiling 9/10 great opener, the drums are awesome at the beginning. Its a fact- 9/10 fun song, but not as good as it gets Marry me- 9/10 awesome song with the guitar solo the drumming the vocals, everything allah- 9/10 really good drumming in this song, just really really good. Tastes like chicken- 9.5/10 funny and catchy, sounds like an outrage against chickfilae or somethin... But then she spoke- 10/10 one of the most catchy choruses in the world, and the lyrics r funny, but they can also be taken seriously. How (did this loser get this job?)- 9/10 or at least 9/10 for the song because the song itself isnt that good but the drumming on here deserves a 100/10. its fast as heck and josh freese doesnt stop! Hungry for you- 7/10 wow, a song with a rating lower than an 8. anyways, its the worst song on the album, not saying its really bad or anything, but its really overshadowed by the other songs. Faliure is the best revenge- 10/10 hillarious song with awesome drumming. and guitar. do i need to say this for every song? cause josh freese just beats the heck out of the drum set on every song and does it better than any other punk drummer. Aging Orange- 11/10 I absolutly love this song, i used to listen to it daily, at least. and its really funny. Canine Euthenasia- 8/10 wow its a song that actually has serious lyrics. its good, but its not very "vanal's like" Moving up- 10/10 hillarious, awesome song with great drumming, etc. (I'll make you) Love me- 11/10 my other favorite song off the album, it has a great guitar bridge, hillarious lyrics, and crazy drumming in the choruses. Choosing your masters- 9/10 pretty good song, takes it down a notch from what has been going on in the album. i think this song would go well on the vandal's album hollywood potatoe chip, but thats just my opinion. I believe- 10.5/10 awesome guitar bass vocals drumming lyrics and any other aspect of a song you can think of. and it ends off the album, so thats awesome. at the end of this song, they actually slow down for 20 seconds, so thats a good way to lead you out of the album. so, basically, this is a great album musically and lyrically, and really funny. and i would just like to state that josh freese is the guy who makes this whole album come together, cause without his awesome drumming, the vandals would be another so-so punk band (even though warren fitzgerald's guitar is awesome too, and dave's vocals are great)

What Great Lyrics!,

I haven't seen lyrics like these since Gilbert & Sullivan. They're funny, but not shock value funny; they're witty funny. The humor isn't forced like in other bands; here it's so natural. And they're not on the usual topics of modern music; rather, these guys write about social institutions, human nature, religion, and more.

The Vandals themselves have said their older stuff sucks and recommend their more recent albums. Don't believe it! Before their records became syrupy radio friendly pop and they became more interested in selling merchandise than making great punk rock, they were putting out albums like this.

Best Vandals album ever!!!,

Thru and thru every song on this is astounding. The Vandals cross intellectually humurous lyrics with speedy punk tunes. The music is well done and catchy...the lyrics are hilarious. My favorites are How did this loser get this job, I believe, Stop smiling, Aging orange, And then she spoke, and It's a fact. If you like humorous punk...this is it.

There is only one big problem with this ablum and it is that songs 1-6 are great but then the album goes seriously downhill after that. The songs up to number 10 are OK but after that they are just boring and nothing that is really good or that can measure up to the first six. The first six songs but mainly the first five redeem this album almost completely. The lyrics to all of them are hilarious and the instrumentals are very good considering the fact that this is a punk album! "Allah" is a very song, through the eyes of a Muslim convert and is almost relevant in the worls that we live in. "Stop Smiling" hits two birds with one stone by making fun of hippies and christians. This is probably the best Vandals ambum out there only because of the great songs 1-6.

You Can Never Go Wrong With The Vandals,

If you have heard "Live Fast Diahreah" and "Hitler Bad, Vandals Good", but never "The Quickening", be prepared to not like it as much, AT FIRST. But then you begin to get "Its A Fact" stuck in your head on the way to school; and at your cousins wedding you begin humming the melody of "Marry Me"; and every time you see a Muslim, you can't help but shout out "Allah", and lets not forget other hits like "Canine Youthenasia" and "Taste Like Chicken". And next time that bimbo in class talks to you, you'll just remember "But Then She Spoke".

This is a great album. Sure it's a really hard, punk album with intelligent lyrics, but sometimes it just makes you laugh. I havent heard much of the Vandals' other stuff, but what I have heard isn't as cool as this album. Yes, they do make fun of Agent Orange, but at least they did it in a really good song.

I love the Vandals but...,

I dig the vandals. I really like their old stuff. This album has some killer songs, but... they attack Agent Orange. A band so much better, so much more talented. Why? They ruined the entire album w/ 1 song. I've gone to their shows, bought their albums... No one bashes Mike Palm and Agent Orange. This album disillusioned me. Why would Warren bash Agent Orange?????
