Book Description

For twenty-one years, the focus of Katherine Dale's life has been her work. Love interests and hobbies came and went, but what has always been there for her was her nine to five habit. Until she's replaced. With her confidence dented, Katherine is angry at life and at herself. She's ignored hints of "changes to come" in her horoscope forecasts, written by the wonderful and renowned astrologer, Mark Ainsley-Thomas. Mark is now an "A" list celebrity in the UK and his new Agent is determined to raise his profile in America, so he has to take on the new, but talented, astrologer James Kingman to help him run his web-site. Katherine lives her life according to her daily horoscope. When Katherine finds James has been writing her daily horoscopes rather than Mark, Katherine's life explodes in confusion and, unexpectedly, love as the three lives become inextricably tangled. Now Katherine has to learn that the stars might be telling her that love is going to feature in her life, but when Katherine finds herself implicated in the headlines 'Mystic Love Triangle Surprise' she's just as surprised as everyone else None of the men in her life are love interests - so what exactly does fate have in store?

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss it June 25, 2012
By Anneli
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When Katherine was "made redundant" at her job and took up writing, two things surprised me: First, that she started at the beginning and, without a plan, kept writing until she was finished her novel. Second, that she didn't rewrite anything and instantly found a publisher. Maybe this kind of thing could happen, but I thought it was a bit of a leap. However, this whole scenario fits perfectly with the kind of person she is, putting her faith in the horoscopes she lives by.
We are drawn into her need for reassurance from her horoscope predictions, all the more so, when James, the journalist who writes the horoscopes, becomes a love interest. Linn Halton sets up the reader to feel for both Katherine and James as we follow them through the ups and downs of their budding love.
The small-town atmosphere and activities, where the postman still takes an interest in the return address on everyone's mail, help to advance the plot. Halton uses the setting effectively to introduce secondary characters.
Light-hearted and touching, The Quintessential Gemini held my interest and entertained me from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tops in chick lit genre June 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Chick lit isn't one of my favorite genres, but I tried (and found that I liked) Quintessential Gemini. In this instance, the author has avoided the "frantic cuteness" and overdone attempts at humor that pervade much of the genre. I liked that the heroine was a bit older, that the characters had flaws, but managed to live good lives anyway. I liked the setting of small town England. I liked that the actions and relationships were "normal" with a few unexpected but realistic twists. This easily could have been the story of your next door neighbours. The astrological element added additional interest. I don't live by my horoscope, but it was interesting to learn a bit about astrology and how the characters applied it to their lives. All in all a fun read so take a copy to the beach with you this summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definite must read June 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
What is your sign? Do you live your life by your horoscope? Katherine does for the most part. She subscribes to a daily forecast. Suddenly, her forecasts aren't making the usual sense or flow they have since she was in her teens. She's been following Mark Ainsley-Thomas's forecasts since her late teens. Finding out James has been subbing is a blow and words are exchanged, apologies are made and they meet and start dating. But is everything going to remain right in Katherine's world or is an untrue rumor going to turn her world upside down?

How Distracted Did I Get?
You will laugh, cry and everything in between in this amazingly drawn together story. Katherine is a normal curvy girl who is a Gemini and that means two parts pulling her different ways. She's a spitfire and I love it! Sometimes I wonder if I should be a Gemini instead of Virgo! LOL Anyway with becoming redundant (laid off for us Yanks!LOL) and a "love triangle" that doesn't exist she perseveres through the tough times.

Ms. Halton has written a lovely story which was hard to put down. The Quintessential Gemini is a definite for your tbr list.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun flirty summer romance! June 16, 2012
By Sugar
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Quintessential Gemini is a rare look into the life and mind of a Gemini and her love for the stars, written by the quintessential Gemini herself, Linn B. Halton. The tale is told by the characters themselves and their thoughts flow through you like a conversation with an old friend. As you read you get a glimpse into their deepest thoughts, even if their actions belay them. Laid off tax accountant Katherine Dale is left looking to the stars for guidance, but instead of finding her usual comfort in the horoscope by her favorite astrologer she finds herself faced with horoscopes done by his new assistant, something she is less than pleased about. With her cat No. 4 by her side in her lonely country cottage she struggles to write her novel while being "misaligned and misguided" by James. When she can no longer take it she dashes off a rather scathing e-mail never meant to see the light of day, but unfortunately, it does. The ensuing attempts to "realign" their relationship are laugh out loud funny! Can two people who let the stars control their lives manage to find a way to be together? Linn adds several lovely underlying story threads to round out the romance and the end will surprise you! I found the story to be a fun, flirty romance that leaves you with a new friend in crazy Katherine. As a Gemini through and through, I highly recommend The Quintessential Gemini! Linn B. Halton is a star!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Chick Lit! June 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I sometimes find it hard to write a review for Authors that I know very well, I worry if I feel I can't give it 5* as I don't want to hurt their feelings and then I worry if i do give 5* as I would hate people to think it is only because I know them. All I can do is be honest, I write my reviews from my heart and hope each Author understands that my views may not be the same as others, we all have different tastes.

That brings me to my review for The Quintessential Gemini, I absolutely loved it. It's funny with laugh out loud pieces, sadly we are laughing at Katherine most of the time not with her! Lovely emotions and insecurities of the characters so beautifully written. What I loved most about it is that there are not loads of characters flitting in and out but instead there are a core 3 leads with a handful of people at the sides to help the story develop. Each chapter is written from either Katherine, Mark or James's point of view but it works perfectly and they are all extremely likeable and real which to me is so important. It is hard to enjoy a book if you can't understand the leads or disagree with their points of view. I particularly loved the chapter names, they fitted perfectly and hooked you with just those few words that tease you so you want to know what would happen next!

To me Linn's writing style is more like a friend sat on a sofa next to you telling you the story than words on a page - captivating!

Whilst I was reading this story, I could so easily imagine this could be a movie I would watch at the cinema as it's young and fresh. A truly fabulous, fun and enjoyable read that you'll want to finish in a single sitting.

More About the Author

Linn B Halton lives in the small village of Arlingham, Gloucestershire in the UK.

Linn began writing in March 2009 and her debut novel was published in February 2011. In a recent interview Linn was asked about genres:

"From a very young age I knew romance was always going to be my genre. I am, and will always be, madly in love with love! Whether that's love of life, a partner, or the things I'm passionate about.

My stories are about love, life and relationships but with a light, psychic touch rather than paranormal. I never dreamed I would write drawing upon the many personal psychic experiences I have had over the years. But as my interest and understanding has grown in the subject, it is now such a part of my life it finds its way into my fictional tales. However, what is heartening is that most of my experiences have been uplifting and it's wonderful to know loved ones are around me always.

The result is that I get a lot of mail from readers who have had similar experiences and some are sharing theirs for the first time with me. I always feel that's something rather special and for which I'm very grateful."

Love, life and beyond... but it's ALWAYS about the romance!

Linn is published by HarperImpulse and Sapphire Star Publishing.
Linn is the editor of Loveahappyending Lifestyle emagazine.
