Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

"Define yourself radically as one beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is an illusion." You are God's beloved child. Brennan Manning brings us from a lukewarm, distant faith to being close enough to lean against the breast of Jesus--the Great Rabbi--and listen to His heartbeat. Adapted from Brennan's best-seller Abba's Child, this moving devotional is a daily reminder to soak in our Father's relentless love. As Abba's children, we need only to define ourselves through His Son just as the apostle John did: as one beloved by God. [ENDORSEMENTS TO COME]

This is B. Manning at his best. His user-friendly style of writing immediately draws one into his very heart and soul. The title alone suggests compassion, love, and care. And, this is the "heart beat" of the Rabbi.

The cover alone would draw my attention to The Rabbi's Heartbeat by Brennan Manning. Growing up on the plains of South Dakota I have a soft spot for lonely trees in wide open spaces. As I began reading, I understood why the cover was chosen and so very apt. Manning calls us to the quiet place inside ourselves where we can find who were really are in light of our Precious Savior and Rabbi, Jesus Christ. Manning talks on the hard things, "Because the shining sun and the falling rain are given both to those who love God and to those who reject God, the compassion of the Son embraces those who are still living in sin. The Pharisee lurking within all of us shuns sinners." Using scripture, quotes, and hard earned experience Manning challenges readers to leave their "shadow self" behind and embrace who they are in the love of the Rabbi.

I was drawn into the book from the very beginning. While Manning minces no words, his tone is one of loving compassion. Speaking out of his own struggles and those of fellow pilgrims, Manning compelled me to leave the surface behind and dive into myself to find the motivations that keeping me from being real to those around me; to find out who I am in Christ and how my attitude toward myself and others should change because of that revelation. This small gift book would be a great addition to any library and comfort to those searching for real answers in a world of artifice. How would your life change if you "Defined yourself radically as one beloved by God?"--(John Eagan)

Most enlightening and soul touching book. Mr. Manning gets to the heart of the matter in a strong and realistic manner. It is refreshing that we have permission to pause and return to the Master and listen to His heartbeat and hear His guidance for us. This book released in me the freedom I have needed to do my ministry call.

Must read for those tired of religion and the plastic answers we often get when we ask the all important question of what a relationship with GOD looks, smells and tastes like. Begin the journey of knowing GOD and not settling for only knowing about Him. This is a good first step.

I had this book and cd once before and I wanted to bless a special friend with it and instructed her to pass it on in order to bless another... long story short, I missed it and wanted it again so it has blessed me twice now. I love it!

Manning at his very best. Tremendous introspection, yet very practical. How true, how true. Christ crucified and the depth of God's love for us brought home. I feel the Rabbi's Heartbeat more than ever.

This is one of my favorite books, one that I go back to all the time and one that I have kept because I usually pass my books on after reading them.
