A beautiful true based children's story
The Kindle Book Review

There's a gentleness and simplicity to this charming tale. The message of embracing beliefs & faith was powerful as was the distinction between who we are and what we're about. I think it would open the door to educate a child about their own roots and beliefs and encourage a discussion into their own understanding.
Author: Jason Garrett

This is a short book with a story of old-fashioned innocence.  What makes the tale even more interesting is, that it is in fact a true story and was reported as such in Life Magazine at the time. A copy of the original article is included at the end of the book and makes fascinating reading.Kids will enjoy this delightful story.

A truly inspiring book with photos and artwork. I loved the concept of the story, sharing the miracles of another culture, and a little historical background...a true story that happened in the life of the author!

Today is just the right day to read about a miracle, don't you think? This book is a blessing for young and old!

This is a short book that you'll be able to read to your kids as a single, bed-time story.
It is a story of a community waiting for rain to arrive to save them from a devastating drought that seems certain to force them off their land. It is also a story of the simple faith of the people that Providence will provide their needs.
The tale is in fact a true story and was reported as such in Life Magazine at the time. A copy of the original article is included at the end of the book and makes fascinating reading.
Kids will enjoy this delightful story.

The Rain Snake by Jeannie Walker is a really good book. It is an excellent (true) story about relationships & faith. The story is that of a young Jeannie & her family in the midst of a prolonged drought in their homestate of Oklahoma. The story revolves around relationships & love as Jeannie wants desperately to help make it rain for he Dad. The study of relationships continue as Jeannie and Rinty try to make it rain. Their love and companionship are unmistakeable. It is also a story about faith. Jeannie's Dad has faith in God that it will rain, Jeannie has faith in the legend her Dad told her, and Jim Bledsoe had faith in believing also. It all culminates as Jeannie gathers up every ounce of courage, with the love and help of Rinty, to pick up the snake & place it, belly up, on the fence. This is a great story for kids, it teaches them that love and faith will carry the day. I can see kids reading this on their own and parents reading this to their children as a bedtime story. On a side note the author's use of quotes at the beginning of each chapter is genius. They are touching quotes that segue beautifully into the chapter.

The Rain Snake is a wonderful story, that brought back so many memories of my youth growing up in North Texas. I especially liked this children's book written by the author (Jeannie Walker) because it is her true story as a young girl, of the power of prayer and Indian customs. The illustrations are great and I can't wait to read The Rain Snake to my great neices and nephews.

"The Rain Snake" is a wonderful children's book. I loved the illustrations and thought the story was a great tale of faith and determination. I believe children will enjoy how this tale is woven together with past Indian customs and beliefs. It was an interesting touch to add clippings of newspaper articles from that time to show how prayer was used to receive the much needed rain. This book is a must have for anyone who is looking for a way to discuss how important prayer is with their children.

This is a heartwarming true short story written by one of my favorite American female authors.

I have had Leghorn chickens, lived through many a drought and am part Cherokee. Both my mother and husband were born in Oklahoma. I am familiar with the area where Jeannie lived, near Lone Wolf and Hobart.

Droughts are a terrible thing, especially when you have crops and animals. Jeannie's father, Woody had recently planted his crops and was very concerned about the drought. Jeannie wanted to help and her dog, Rinty wanted to assist her in her struggle to make it rain.

This story reminds me a bit of the 1993 movie, Skylark, starring Glenn Close and Christopher Walken. The difference being Jeannie's decision to try a Cherokee method of making it rain.
Many other people living in the area also tried several remedies. Of course, when it rains they each felt it was their method that worked.

You must read this well written, very enjoyable true story and decide for yourselves, was it Jim's method that worked? That is my belief and when I get rain after a long drought, I always dance in the rain. I guess it's because I'm part Cherokee, as I said earlier.

What A beautiful story and memory for A little girl to live with growing up. In the early fifties I remember my father in law killing A snake and hanging it over the fence belly up. He told me the same story and by chance it did rain. Don't know if it rained until the snake came off the fence or not but he told me it would. A lot of things in this life cannot be explained. Thanks for this wonderful story.

For its graphic content alone, this book is worth more than the five stars I have given it. I read it on a Kindle, and was amazed at the quality and detail of the accompanying pictures, all of which seemed relevant to the story. As for the story itself, it is aimed at children. I am neither a child nor a writer of children's stories, so I am a long way out of my depth trying to determine whether or not this would appeal to its intended audience. It has been a long time since I had a grandchild on my knee while we talked through the pictures as we read a conventional children's book, but I have a feeling that The Rain Snake on Kindle would be one they would enjoy.

This wonderful story opened up my memory chute - sending me back to the good ole' days when
my grandfather would kill a snake and hang it on a tree branch or fence, trying to get the
dark clouds rolling in. My grandmother (Cherokee) would speak up and tell him to pray, just pray
if you want it to rain - have faith in the good Lord! When sudden downpours of rain came, they
both had big smiles!

Beautifully and thoughtfully written by the talented award winning author (Fighting the Devil)
Jeannie Walker. Awesome book; it is definitely worth the buy!
