5.0 out of 5 stars Tao-like Cope Creates Fierce, yet simple, Imagery and Passion
I am not Citizen Cope's biggest fan and I did not see his first concert ever. I picked up on him by accident a few years back and instantly feel in love like so many others. Maybe CC's passion and uniqueness makes every fan feel like his biggest fan, his music is just that moving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tao-like Cope Creates Fierce, yet simple, Imagery and Passion, February 13, 2010
This review is from: The Rainwater Lp (MP3 Download)
I am not Citizen Cope's biggest fan and I did not see his first concert ever. I picked up on him by accident a few years back and instantly feel in love like so many others. Maybe CC's passion and uniqueness makes every fan feel like his biggest fan, his music is just that moving.

I have seen Cope in concert five or six times over the last four years and this album continues in Copes progression towards masterful simplicity. After seeing him the last time play acoustic and alone this album represents what I expected based on that show. Great lyrics, amazing voice, and simple, yet powerful beats.

my two complaints/wishes:
1. After waiting two years I wish there were more than 8 unique songs(the cd has 10 tracks, but two are remixes), but I would prefer 8 great tracks then a cd with 20 tracks and only one or two good ones for the radio.

2. I wish there were a few faster songs. I do not dislike the slow songs, but I think one or two Brother Named Lee like tunes would have been nice.

All in all the cd delivers and is a must have. If you do not already have Citizen Cope's self titled album I would recommend that as a better first offering. If you already have all the other cds then your probably getting this cd regardless of what I said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intro to Citizen Cope, February 19, 2010

This is my first listen of any Citizen Cope material and I have to say that I am instantly hooked. I enjoyed this album very much and have picked up a few of his older albums and have been equally impressed. It is an easy listen and I enjoy his lyrics too. I know some have indicated that this album may be a departure from his previous albums, but I think progression is important in all things. After listening to older albums, I don't feel it is that much of a departure, but simply some maturity in his abilities and his experiences. I very much enjoy the album and recommend it to existing Citizen Cope fans and new fans alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Respect beyond words, February 19, 2010

First and foremost, The RainWater LP is amazing. If you are a true listener, you will hear something new every time. He has a unique talent for expressing big ideas and everyday people ideas at the same time. Go to his website and read the letter he sent with the release. These words will give you insight into what he's done to preserve the integrity of his art. He hasn't tried to fit into a genre, he hasn't allowed the business part of the industry to drive his choices, he chooses promotion/placement carefully; he does this because he loves it and he has a gift to share. My personal favorites on this album (at this moment) are "I Couldn't Explain Why" and "Off The Ground" but I love the whole thing, start to finish. Thank you, Clarence!

See him live. He tours like a mad man, so you should be able to see him in the next 12 months, wherever you are. And see him 2 nights in a row, if you can. You will have 2 different experiences because he watches his crowd, adjusts, uses the crowd to enhance the music. Crowds are all ages (from college age to gray hair....and a lot in between). It's an experience.

Citizen Cope has created another amazing album with very powerful and meaningful lyrics. Healing Hands, Keep Askin' and Lifeline have become some of my favorite Citizen Cope songs ever. I am very very pleased with this album. His songs are a breath of fresh air. I would recommend this album to everyone! Every time I listen to a song again, I love it even more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cope does it again!, February 11, 2010
This review is from: The Rainwater Lp (MP3 Download)
Just listened through for the first time - it definitely won't be the last. Cope mixes so many styles and always comes up with such unique music. There's nothing else out there like this. His voice, the beats, the guitar. This album is Cope at his best.

Sadly...This album was just a little bit of a let down,
This coming from one of the Biggest Fans of CC borderline obsessive. I know every song from every album by heart.
I was in love with Citizen Cope years before anyone knew who he was....I saw him perform at Center Stage in Central Park just before his first album dropped, and since then I have easily labeled him my favorite Artist creating music.
This album does not have the same "uniqueness" all his other albums have. :(
Its a lot more mainstream, the beats are very similar to a lot of his previous tracks. I loved how he previously incorporated a wide array of sounds, beats, styles creating complex tracks and this album seems a lot "simpler" without that extra effort and consideration. It kind of sounds like an album that one would expect from an artist that produces what people expect from them.
Still considering, it is Citizen Cope so it is still amazing compared to all the other crap being produced these days.
Getting ready to see him concert for the 5th time...hoping see him perform this album live will change my mind!

5.0 out of 5 stars Evokes Emotion, Defies Categorization, Soothes the Soul, December 26, 2011

Citizen Cope's newest album does not disappoint. Lurking somewhere between hip-hop and alternative/indie singer-songwriter, with mild hints of blues, his music is equally appropriate for a relaxed Fall time morning drive,a contemplative Winter morning on the couch, or falling asleep on the porch during a late Spring / early Summer rain storm. He deserves more attention.

Definitely worth the current MP3 download price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Citizen Cope Has not Disapointed, March 6, 2011

I am like always impressed, amazed and enamored by Citizen Cope. The twang in his guitar, the beautiful piano backing, its an experience.

Admittedly its not for everyone, most music isnt, but if you on the edge about this take the plunge you will not regret it.

Citizen Cope has created yet another beautiful album that makes you feel like it transports you from wherever you are to a beautiful night with a full moon on a beach somewhere and Citizen Cope is just playing in the background.

If this is your first Citizen Cope experience I cannot think of a better place to start.

So i was on my home from work when I heard the song healing hands. I fell in love with his voice instantly and my husband recently purchased this cd for me. All it took was that one song and now im hooked. I have been listening to this cd non stop, its truly a work of art. Wish I would have found out about him years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an experience!, October 6, 2010

Well, he pulled me in again. I just can't listen to enough of Cope. His style is all his own, although at times a little glimmer of van morrison can be felt in his ambiguous style, yet rest assured he is truly unique and refreshing standing in a catagory all on his own. I LOVE keep askin, healing hands and just every note from the first to the last. I will probably be buried with a clarence greenwood cd in hand.
Update___ Weeks after this cd burning itself up on my cd player I find it amazing how my favorites have changed. I am amazed at how Cope layers his music, I ALWAYS hear something new and for a few days one will be my favorite then suddenly I am in love with a previous track that I wasn't peacefully drowning in. I read alot of comments about being disappointed this release isn't as fast as other releases and so on and all I think is aren't those songs still getting played? In my car I have Four Cope cd's always waiting, which goes on depends on my mood. Why would you want him to keep delivering more of the same. I love how Cope has each cd flow throughout and I think healing hands sets the pace on this cruise and I enjoy the trip from start to finish, up and down, it just flows! I think each cd has a mindset of it's own and I can't believe one musician can give this to me. Cope is my beethovan!
