Good quality and good value
on April 29, 2012
We have been buying zereshk (dry barberries) at the local Armenian markets in Watertown MA for many years to go with saffron for making Persian rice dishes. Unfortunately, the supply and quality has been irregular, and lately the price has jumped, leading me to look for alternatives.
I was glad to find these on Amazon. The price is very good. The berries are less dry, which means that they weigh more per berry (which reduces the count per pound), but the quality is very good, so that's ok. They are organic, which is a plus. They are fresher and have a brighter color and vivid taste. They are not imported, but the taste and texture is very similar (actually, better) compared to the ones we got from Iran via the local markets.
This is likely to become our new source for zereshk, as we are very happy with the quality and the service of this merchant.
