Renee Hoffinger, MHSE, RD, has created a gem of a cookbook. The recipes are terrific -- simple, deliciously healthy and diverse--enhanced by Ms. Hoffinger's personable commentary and suggestions. The initial chapters provide reader-friendly information that is genuinely thought-provoking, useful and motivating. All through the book you hear Ms. Hoffinger's voice, knowledgeable, warm and humorous, which has the effect of being highly encouraging. This is a valuable cookbook for anyone who wants to improve their health and well-being, whether or not in recovery, and who wants to cook healthy, delicious food for themselves and their family.

For the past 25 years I have worked in the field of substance abuse counseling and treatment and I must say that this is the first indepth book that I have come across that looks at the very neglected issue of the relationship between diet and sustained recovery. Ms. Hoffinger, in a clear and engaging writing style, and with many practical suggestions, offers to the reader how proper nutrition and diet plays a pivotal role in helping people to maintain a clean and sober life.

This book is also amazing in that it offers the reader 12-weeks of meal planning ideas that a person can immediately put into practice.

Along with The Big Book of AA, and other 12-Step recovery literature, Ms. Hoffinger's "The Recovery Diet" should be a standard text used by persons who are looking at maintaining their through a holistic approach.
