Absolutely Amazing..,
By
This review is from: The Red Shift (MP3 Download)
omnium gatherum have arrived with their new album. It is simply amazing. after their last 2 albums just simply not holding a flame to their amazing debut album *spirits and august light* I was getting anxious for OG to release another stellar album, and this new album does not only hold a torch to the debut it far surpasses it. The production is great and was mixed and mastered by the man "Dan Swano". The music on this album brings back allot of the melodys missing on their last album. It is actually one of the best mixes of melody and agression i have heard. The band is top of their game on this album even pushing their technical playing a bit further. The guitar playing is amazing the solos are great as usual! and the drum playig is awesome as always. keyboards stand out much more on this album. I also noticed a huge improvement on the vocals. his growls and clean vocals have bolth gotten much better. jukka has a very different unique voice. so what your getting here is melodic death metal with a bit of a proggy touch.
give it a listen true melodic death metal here. wont be a better melodic death metal album out any time soon. This is quality stuff..

Omnium Who?,
This review is from: The Red Shift (Audio CD)
I heard about Omnium Gatherum through the grapevine. They were described to me as Scandnavian metal done right, so naturally, I went out and grabbed this. The person who reccommended it was right on the money. This disc is awesome.
The guitar work, while not overly complex in sound, provides most of the melody. Keyboards add atmosphere. The vocals sound like melodic death metal to a T, nice and gutteral. Not that the singer doesn't have a nice, rangy, clean vocal section mixed in now and then. My first impression on more than one song was "very Dark Tranquillity-esqe". If you, like me, are a fan of DT, pick this one up. You will not be disappointed. I'm very impressed with this one. The Red Shift gets 4.5 out of 5 stars.

First Impressions...,
This review is from: The Red Shift (Audio CD)
I only just heard OG recently via New World Shadows, which has a bunch of good, catchy songs on it. So, now I'm working my way back to see what I missed. I just finished listening to this entire album for the first time today. It's pretty much what I expected, which is well-done, well-produced melodic death metal. Nothing revolutionary, but I wasn't asking for that either. Variations of a theme are OK for this genre because I like the genre. They still do their own thing with it. I found this on Amazon on the Insomnium pages, and I'll say OG is a great find for anyone who likes Insomnium. OG is different, but it has a similar feel to it. Neither band is trying to be the next virtuoso on guitar, or being some technical genius, and I'm OK with that. The vibe they create is thoughtful and expansive. It's kind of a "Thinking Man's Metal". I tend to like that stuff, including Scar Symmetry, Skyfire, In Flames, Opeth, etc. Just some good, quality thought-music with some depth. I think there are a handful of songs that stand out on this album, like I think for NWS. Perhaps more on NWS, but it took a few listens for that to grow on me... and maybe this will. I like these guys though. Glad I found them. (For anyone interested in how much metal-experience I have, I'm 34. I think all reviews should require an age. :D )
