This is one of those books that once you pick it up, you won't put it down. From the very beginning of the story, The Remains has a hold of you and won't let go. This is an amazing suspenseful thriller about a young woman being haunted by her past and the man who abducted her and her twin sister 30 years ago. The twins never told anyone about what happened to them for fear that the man would harm their parents, and now he's back in the surviving twins life.

If this had been a movie I would have been watching it with my hand around my mouth ready to be pushed above my eyes to hide. I loved it! It was like a roller coaster. I don't read a lot of thrillers, but I do love reading suspense and mysteries, and this was the best of both. The characters were easy to understand and like. The storyline wasn't the same old suspense and it kept me guessing. This is definitely a good read.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense, thrillers and mysteries. Not inappropriate for older teenagers, but mature readers only. I think my oldest son, who is 16, would like to read this book, but it might be a little too much for my younger son, who is 14. Not really a book that is specific for girls even though the main character is a woman. However it would be good for women to read because she handles herself and her situation really well.

This book will capture your attention from the first page. The writing style for the story is very easy and it is just pure entertainment. The characters are fleshed out in such a way that you get to know them well and you will find yourself getting personally involved with the.

My only negative with this book is with the editing. The biggest problem with the editing was incorrect use of adverbs, such as "Dan taught Molly and I to fish". The sentence should read "Dan taught Molly and me to fish". The only reason I am pointing this out is that it happens many times in the book. Editing and proofing are very important tools to use for any book.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and would recommend this book.

There is the element of suspense, but the straightforward story is quite predictable throughout.Descrptions are simple (everybody is running hands through 'thick hair') but the story fights through the writing and mistakes to be somewhat captivating at times. This is an easy read that makes it a decent thriller for younger readers, but Christie and King it is not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspense and action at its best. Will hook you from the beginning!, January 29, 2011

This review is from: The Remains (Paperback)
The Remains by Vincent Zandri is an amazing suspense-filled nightmare that does not let the reader out of it's grasps until the final word is read.

Just the cover of The Remains sends chills throughout my body and makes my fingers itch to grab it and delve in. Once I did begin to read, I was instantly hooked and found it very difficult to put down. I have read several thrillers and suspense stories and have to honestly say that this is one of the best that I have read. I was taken by surprise repeatedly, throughout the story and I loved that. The twists and turns were phenomenal and truly kept me racing from page to page.

The Remains is the story of Rebecca Underhill who has held a deep dark secret within her soul for thirty years. After the death of her parents and beloved twin sister, she has struggled to piece together some semblance of a life. Teaching art helps to fill some of the gaps left behind the loss of her loved ones and a divorce. However when one of her autistic students, who she grew up with, begins to paint troubling and telling paintings, Molly's life is turned upside down. It is not long before she realizes that the nightmare that she through lived, so long ago, is about to resurrect itself and will not let her go until she is finally dead.

A truly horrific and action packed story, The Remains made me shudder in apprehision, my skin crawl in revulsion and my heart break with pain. This is a story that truly has it all and will embrace readers within it's cover and hurtle them into Molly's life and tragic nightmare.

The Devil has re-emerged into society and will stop at nothing until his kitten has been sent to its rightful place.

"Run away little kitten. I'm going to chase u now." Run little kitten before you die...

*I wanted to explain my rating of this book. I am going to give it a 4.5 overall, however would state that for lovers of the suspense/thiller genre it would be 5/5!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vicent Zandri, The Remains, February 5, 2011
This review is from: The Remains (Paperback)
I loved this book. Vincent's timing is superb. Throughout the book he gives you just enough of the puzzle to keep you gripped and wanting to keep reading. His characters are great. I hated the villian and loved the rest of the characters. From beginning to end the plot built to an amazing climax.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read This Book!, December 20, 2010
This review is from: The Remains (Paperback)
Holy crap was this a good book! I was interested as soon as I saw twins were involved. I have twin sons and yes, there is a special bond there. You do not need to have twins to enjoy this book though. Vincent also happens to be one of my favorite names but again, one has nothing to do with the other! :)

The Remains took off running from page one and never slowed down. I love how the chapters all had cliff hanger endings. Even if you wanted to stop reading you couldn't. You MUST see what happens when you turn the page!

The story of the abduction is not all told at the beginning but all through the book. We know that Molly and Rebecca were abducted and held but a crazed man but we are not sure why until the book progresses. Molly later passes on from cancer but the 'twin bond' between her and Rebecca is not broken. Is Molly communicating from the other side?

The relationship between Rebecca and her ex-husband, Michael was strange to me at first. It then turned very touching. My favorite scene with them was the bedroom scene and not for the reasons you think. Very much reminded me of my husband.

Having an autistic savant play such a big role was refreshing and wonderful. Franny is totally lovable and a man I would be honored to have as a friend. Franny speaks to Rebecca through his paintings. Each day there is a new painting and a new message in it. How is it possible for him to know what happened so many years ago or what is going to happen in the near future? I enjoyed the interaction between Franny and Rebecca. It was easy to understand her frustration with his limited abilities to communicate answers to things she asked him.

It wrapped up nicely, maybe not how I wanted it too but everything came together and made sense.

Honestly? There is NOTHING in this book that I did not like! The Remains has to be one of the creepiest books I've read in awhile. I am a die-hard horror/thriller lover and few books cause me to look over my shoulder, this one did, more than once. Thank you Mr. Zandri, I am jumping at every noise and let's not even talk about not wanting to check my texts. This is one city girl who will never look at a spider web or a walk in the woods the same again.

I am absolutely going to snatch up all of Vincent Zandri's books. He is an author not to be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Thriller, September 13, 2010

Teenagers Rebecca and Molly Underhill are abducted by a man in the woods near their home. After several hours of torture, the girls manage to escape. They never speak of it to anyone except each other.
Thirty years later and the memories return, along with anonymous texts and haunting paintings. Is that monster back or is Rebecca losing her mind?
This is an excellent fast paced thriller. I could not put it down.
I continued to think about the characters and the story even after I had finished the book.
This Kindle edition was also a great value. Don't let the reasonable price fool you. This is an excellent, superbly written thriller.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Creepy Set Up, May 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Remains (Kindle Edition)
Pre-teen Rebecca followed her bolder twin Molly into the woods thirty years ago, and a monster grabbed them. They never told anyone.

Now grown up and mourning her sister's loss to cancer, creepy things begin to happen to Bec. She senses she's being followed, she's getting odd text messages and phone calls, and her autistic savant "student" seems to be creating paintings straight out of her dream life.

Has the monster returned? Or is someone else stalking her? Could it be that she's going mad? Has the grief surrounding her loss combined with the stress of hiding such a terrible secret for all these years made it impossible for her to distinguish between sleep and consciousness?

It's a potent set up for a creepy novel that will keep the reader quickly thumbing the pages.

Then, about halfway through, it all comes apart.

There are no twists but the obvious ones, and we're treated to a third act straight out of CRIMINAL MINDS. The climax is thuddingly predictable. The conclusion is painfully neat.

There are things to like about this book. Zandri does a terrific job creating Rebecca, who engagingly and credibly narrates in the first person. But what we he does with his creation is deeply disappointing.

I don't review many books, but this one was so good, I just had to. I finished it in 2 days. It was hard to put down. Well worth the money! Parents may also like that the book wasn't full of filthy language and such (in case their teens want to read). If it was a movie, the rating would probably be PG13.

This was my very first read on my Kindle. I was so excited to get started because of all of the 5 star reviews. It was an enjoyable story, but, to me, it wasn't as fabulous and "can't put it down," as others had said. The story was a very predictable, easy read and didn't really hold my attention. There was such a build up to what had happened with Whalen in the house and it was a disappointment. I'm going to try another of Zandri's books before I give up on the author.
