Even though Gina cancels her wedding mere days before the ceremony, she's determined to keep her reservation for a famous honeymoon suite in Dallas.

Enter Race, a Texas cowboy who cleans up rather well, and who declares himself her substitute groom for the week.

Thinking her best friend hired Race, Gina goes along with the fun - at first. But is Race really who he seems? Why is Gina's ex-fiance staying at the same hotel? And just how far is Gina prepared to go with Race and that model-worthy face of his on their "honeymoon"?

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK March 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Downloaded this when it was offered free one day. It's a quick read and an "ok" romance. I wasn't blown out of the water by the characters or the story. The author was a little too descriptive for me...especially during the "love" scene. If you're looking for a quick read and not looking to getting emotionally involved...then I would choose this as a book to pass time with. It's not the greatest but it is not the worst either.

Summary: Gina, an accountant with "principles", decides to stay in the honeymoon suite that she had paid for even after she catches her fiance and maid of honor in an affair. Then a stranger shows up at her door, Race Bannister, who informs her that someone has paid for him to be her "groom"/date for the day....because supposedly, the former fiance, Bradley, decides to stay at the same hotel with his new bride (the maid of honor). What is that saying where you have to "suspend disbelief"? You're going to have to do that with this book....there are just moments throughout the book that wouldn't normally happen. And because of these moments, the characters and story were just ok for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Had potential ... March 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well-written story that doesn't quite live up to its promise. Good premise, but executed in a questionable way. I found it hard to believe that the H would let the h stay as her pretend groom when she had no knowledge of who he was or who might have sent him - potential for all sorts of danger. And I didn't buy her forgiving her fiance stealing best friend so quickly, either.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable for a rainy afternoon March 3, 2012

The story is short and an easy read. Race & Gina are likable characters and it was funny seeing them turn on the charm to piss of the ex (always fun seeing a cheater get put in his place). Not a totally original story line but who doesn't love a good love story. The twist at the end was a little surprise that I didn't expect so that added to the 4 star rating. Without it likely would have been a 3 star rating.

Also have to put in a note about "Etta" she was so cute :)

I agree with other reviewers, would have been better if it was longer. I would have enjoyed a little more character development but that would make it a full on novel not short. As it is, the story was enjoyable and I read it in one sitting.
Would recommend it to those looking for a "just for fun" read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Engaging. April 13, 2012

This was a good quick read. I found the love scene moving. It was interesting how Ms. Blake portrayed the emotions involved without too much detail. I liked it. For a short it was worth the time it took to read.

2.0 out of 5 stars no, no and NO June 22, 2013
By Becca
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
this could have been a very good novella had the female not been such a wishy washy twit. she knew race wasn't who he said he was but she just kept going back for more. 'oh my goodness what if he was here to hurt her?!' time to go dancing with him! 'she really should confront public lest he get violent!' so she takes him back to her room once more without confronting him.

in the beginning of the story, she actually left her room and ran down to the concierge to tell him there was a strange man in her room then wasnt really sure if she wanted him removed...OY!

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute quick read March 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Very cute quick read with the typical girl has heart broken, girl is sad, then girl meets hero storyline.
In my view, this genre/type of story's never get old lol :-)
I personally like a good story where it leaves you wishing that you could meet a hero like Race in the book. Heck, if I new that the next time I had someone knocking on my door as Gina did, and that it would be a guy like Race, boy I would dash to the door so fast that you just may see smoke coming from my feet lol!
Yes, you may think that this book is the typical predictable chick lit, but believe me, it is worth it. I would recommend this book to friends in a heart beat. This was a very sweet book that will definitely leave you with a smile on your face. I would give this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
*highly recommended for those weekend getaways

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story March 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Interesting short story. I like the story line but in some places I had to remind myself that its a work of fiction. There are some things that would not happen realistically-speaking. 'Suspension of reality' is how another reviewer put it. I don't want to say too much as it would give the story away. I liked the main characters and I wish this was a longer story. Oh, and the ending could have been better.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it! February 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this cute story. The author's style was fun to read and her characters engaging and well rounded for such a short story. I would definitely read another romance by Jennifer Blake.

Gina is staying at the honeymoon suite by herself after calling off her wedding with Bradley Dillman. She discovered him have "one last fling" two weeks before the wedding than found he had book the suite next door to hers. Determined that he would not find her crying over him, she decides to camp out in her room in hopes of making him think she has moved on with another guy. When another guy actually shows up at her door, she is dumbfounded. Race Bannister is the Rent-A-Gent of her dreams offering his escort services to help her save face with Bradley and his new "wife". Going against her straight lace personality, Gina eventually decides to accept Race's services but quickly realizes there is something very suspicious in the air. The Dilemma? Run-a-way or relax and let Race charm her.

The secondary characters of the protective concierge Tyrone and the meddling maid Etta were a wonderful addition to this story. Short and sweet.
