This book was written in connection with the movie "Courageous." In the movie, the main male characters are challenged to commit themselves to live according to scriptural principles in the form of a resolution for men. "The Resolution for Women" by Priscilla Shirer looks at the other side of the issue by challenging women to make a resolution to live according scriptural principles for women.

"The Resolution for Women" has short chapters and can be read either of two ways; quickly consume the information and complete the book or read just a chapter or two per day and prayerfully meditate on what changes would have to made in one's own life in order to adhere to the resolution. I chose the latter method and am glad I did.

The focus of the various chapters are: being content, biblical femininity, valuing myself, devoted to Christ, following God's priorities, esteeming others with my full attention, demonstrating forgiveness, living with integrity, blessing your husband, training my children, living with grace, and leaving a godly legacy. As you can tell from the chapter topics, this is a comprehensive book. Fortunately, it is NOT written in a manner that puts one under the pile. Rather, it is written as a challenge to be all you can from a friend that believes the best in you. I recommend it highly.

One of the best books I have ever read! This resolution teaches women how to live as a strong, graceful, Christian woman in a world filled with alternative views and poor role models. Beautifully written in a captivating way.

This book is awesome and life changing! Read it slow and stop to meditate often to get the most from it.

Having seen the movie "Courageous" I went searching Amazon for these Resolution books for me and for my husband. If ever we have any intention to 'being a better person tomorrow than we are today", this book has so many helpful parts to start working on it. It would also be a good book for a few ladies to get a small group together to study, discuss ideas, and hold each other accountable as they walk through the book. Get ready for some very challenging discussions, though! But this is very. very good food for thought, and ammunition for the battles of today's world. We need to stand up, raise the bar, and be ready to help others attain their goals as well! THIS IS A MUST READ FOR ALL!

There is lots of encouragement in this book, but I didn't think it lived up to the reviews very well. If you have done any bible studies in the past, I doubt you will be challenged by anything new or earth shaking. I found her writing style to be so casual that the book just seemed trite and sometimes silly. She uses many cliches in the book and her examples are often shallow. There are few references to Scripture, so if you are looking for a bible study, this is not the book for you. Usually, you wouldn't even have to read the chapter in order to answer the questions following each chapter. I did especially appreciate the chapter on how to be a good listener, but, other than that, I've struggled to read this book. If you are new to Christianity or challenging yourself to live with purpose, you may find this book helpful, otherwise, I'd take a pass on it!

After reading the "Resolution for Men," I keep thinking if there is also an equivalent set of challenges for the female folks as well. This book fills in the gap. Amazingly, it is indeed an excellent companion. If husbands read the men's resolutions, it will be especially helpful if wives read this book at the same time. There are some similarities with the men's version. Firstly, there is a one-page resolution specifically for women, albeit with 13 resolutions compared with 12 for the men's version. This does not mean the ladies do more. It is simply the author's way of making her points clearer with regards to what the women of God can resolve to do. Secondly, both books are companion volumes to the COURAGEOUS movie (Sherwood Pictures) and COURAGEOUS LIVING book (Michael Catt). Thirdly, both books are attempts to raise the bar for self. The best way to challenge oneself is to keep the bar high enough to motivate us to be excellent people. Finally, just like 'Resolutions for Men,' each chapter ends with a specific challenge. Theory must be put into practice.

Unlike the men's version, Shirer is a little more delicate in the motivational aspect. The Men's version has a lot more of recognizing the call for men, and the need for men to respond to this call. It is somewhat a more direct, goal-getter, target setting style. The Women's version goes a little deeper in terms of being more indirect, more explanatory, and more questions for personal reflection. The Men's version has relatively more imperative challenges, and a proactive approach to working out the challenges. The women's version has challenges too, but proceeds in a more contemplative manner. The Men's version has a greater amount of telling and showing one what to do. The Women's version dwells a little more on explaining, convincing, and a lot of story telling to move the soul.

I appreciate the way Shirer explains the need for resolutions. The chapter 'The Resolution Revolution' is such a necessary exhortation for a culture that seems to be overly dismissive about any need for making resolutions in the first place. I wish the Men's version had the same chapter. Part One carefully establishes the need for women to understand their sense of who they are biblically. Part Two reminds the readers to recognize what they have, to devote to God's priorities for their lives; to bless others; to forgive; and to learn to care and to live a life of integrity before God and people. Part Three focuses on the specific responsibilities as wives, as female workers, as mothers, and to learn to live a life of grace, and to leave a life of legacy.

This book has set a high bar for women. It is beneficial for men to read this book as well, not only to understand the women's perspective, but also because a lot of advice in it applies to men as well. For any reader, if you read this book, be prepared to be charged up, and to be changed from the inside.

Rating: 5 stars of 5.

I've done many bible studies over the years. This one, after only completely two weeks, has already made a big impact on my life and heart. I'm so grateful that this was mentioned and recommended to my bible study leader. I have been completing this in a group setting but it would also be possible and just as worthwhile to complete by oneself. I'm a 22-year-old with my first child on the way but I believe this book really applies to an woman of God's life. My favorite part of discussing these in a group setting is getting to hear perspectives from women in all stages of life. I can't recommend this book enough!

Excellent book for all women fill with biblical truths and helping women to trust in God's perfect plan
for her life. The book comes with different resolution that challenges your daily decisions that will glorify God.
There are thirteen resolutions in this book. A few of them include, being a champion for God's model for womanhood in the face of a postfeminist culture, I will be a woman who is quick to listen and slow to speak. I will care about the concerns of others and esteem them more highly than myself.
Priscilla is a great teacher and wonderful author!!

We have used this book as a women's Bible Study. This book, at first, doesn't seem like much, but when you begin to pray and read each section carefully, it is amazing! Priscilla Shirer has done a tremendous job of making this book easy to read and understand and the questions at the end of each section bring each section to a real life application. I would recommend this book to any Christian woman, no matter their age or marital status.

My fiance owns "The Resolution for Men," while I own the female counterpart. As hard as I may try to like it, I am disappointed in this book. Full of trite examples, it feels rushed and poorly executed. I just read a chapter about the author decorating a home, and how she came to the conclusion that a tassel wasn't that aesthetically important. Somehow this was wrapped up into a moral about how we shouldn't focus on the inconsequential things in life. While reading this, I couldn't help but feel that if you have nothing to say, then don't say anything at all.
