Book Description

The guy from the wrong side of the tracks…

Being promoted should be a dream come true, only it means working closely with Cleo's childhood crush, Jax Monroe. Jax may no longer be the rebel she remembers, but he still gets her heart racing like no other.

Jax cares too much about Cleo to let her get too close—but keeping his distance is proving impossible! As Jax reveals the extent of what he's been through, will Cleo show him that some things are too precious to put off until tomorrow?

From the Author

Dear Reader:

When the idea for Jax and Cleo's story came to mind, I was enthralled with the idea of using Las Vegas as the setting. I find the history of that city, from the danger to the excitement, so unique. Vegas was full of action and I wanted to bring a hint of that flavor into Jax and Cleo's story.

Cleo is a small town girl searching for something to fulfill her and she thinks she'll find it in this vibrant city. What she doesn't know and must learn is that fulfillment and satisfaction are things that come from within. And sometimes they are the things we've known all along but have forgotten or discarded as not important enough.

Jax is drawn to Vegas as a means of escape, hoping to get lost in a crowd while enjoying the rush of excitement as he tests Lady Luck. What he doesn't count on is running into a blast from the past--his best friend's little sister, who isn't so little anymore. But this unexpected reunion isn't the only hitch in his Vegas getaway.

Cleo and Jax are a great match as they challenge each other to conquer their fears. I hope you'll enjoy their mishaps and adventures on their journey to find their happily ever after.

Happy reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorites! July 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed the first book I read by Faye which was why when asked to review this one I didn't hesitate.

Let me tell you, I may have liked her first book, but I loved this one. This was such a good read and believe it or not I have been in a book slump when it comes to romances, which is ridiculous and unheard of for me but I was and this pulled me right out of it. In fact, I read this in a single sitting.

I love these type of romances, where the characters already knew each other, grew up together and were friends. The friends to lovers trope is one I will never get tired of and Faye managed to put a spin on this that kept it exciting and romantic and just plain fun.

I loved the witty banter, the heart felt talks, and of course the sexual tension. There is always just enough hint of what will happen later on to keep you interested without telling too much as to make you blush or feel uncomfortable.

I always love how fleshed out her characters are and how you instantly fall in love with them.

I was a fan before of Faye's work but I am a fan for life now.

At age fourteen, Cleo had the most painful, most obvious schoolgirl crush on her big brother's best friend: the dangerous, brooding Jax Monroe—and to be honest, she's always been in love with him, even after he left town without a word. Now, she's finally up on her feet with a handsomely paying casino job and the determination to make amends with her estranged mother, so it's a shock—and not even a pleasant one—when, after all these years, Jax comes barreling back into her life.

I was attracted to the "reunited after childhood" storyline of this novel but it was far from dramatic and really just didn't hit the spot for me. The plot revolving around the cute badboy all grown up is normally my thing—I love myself a reformed hero!—but the two main characters are so shallow and so irritatingly boring that I didn't like or sympathize with either of them.

Regarding the romance element, what Jax and Cleo feel for each other is definitely instalove; with poor relationship development, stilted dialogue, and absolutely no chemistry, the "romance" is unrealistic and mundane. There's nothing that stands out to me about this couple, nothing that makes me swoon or ache or smile. They're both just there, taking up space. The Return of the Rebel is a VERY chaste romance, very PG with no steam or sex at all; sure, it's sweet, but it's also rather flavorless. It didn't seem much like a romance novel to me, other than the (rather undeserved) happy ending.

My biggest issue with this book was Faye's tendency to draw out the blandest, most clichéd literary devices and conventions in her writing. She is not a bad writer; while not immensely commendable, her style is smooth, straightforward, and it gets the job done.

5.0 out of 5 stars how much can one person take? July 2, 2014
By sue L
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Cleo had to seek a life of her own and she went the complete opposite of her family by working in a casino and being a hostess to high paying guests. Her boss is not impressed with her and would love to see her out of his work place and he has placed high demands on her. The special guest she is to make welcome is non other but some one she knows very well.

Shock to find who are guest is and the so many unexpected events tossed into the mix, it looks like her boss will soon be able to fire her. The story line is full of funny, serious and strange events which she and her guest Jax faces together and her boss keeps thinking this is the day she goofs up.

I was totaling into the story and could not put the book down. Jennifer Faye has a very wonderful style of putting the right words and ideas together and I highly recommend this book. I think the reader will find humor in it and feel like I did..Cloe has to have something go correct for her.

Course the ending is a surprise and I refuse to spoil the ending so I will just will be surprise too. I have to admit this was the first book I read by Jennifer Faye but it will not be the last one. I am totally hooked on her writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jux and Cleo are a perfect couple! July 19, 2014
By Rubina
Format:Kindle Edition
Cleo Sinclair represents all women who are trying to live their lives in their own terms. She grew up in a farm and her whole family was involved in that. But she knew she wanted more. She wanted to see the world and make a mark for herself. With her childhood sweetheart already gone in pursuit of his dreams, she had nothing to stay in the small town for. But her action caused a family tragedy and even if she was not to be blamed for it, she bore the shame of being 'the accused.'

Cutting off from her family, she started working at one of Las Vegas's most luxurious establishments. She knew her family would not approve of her work and she never told them. But fate had other plans for her. She came face to face with Jax Monroe - her childhood sweetheart. Much to her surprise, he insisted on using an alias. Fearing the worst, she soon found out that his life was in danger. In more ways than one.

Jax on the other hand, tried his best to keep away from the girl whom he knew from back home. Things had changed for him ever since. It was not that he was not attracted to her, but he knew his life could be cut short anytime.

But when love is meant to be, nothing can stop the Fates from working towards the goal of bringing the lovers together. But could the Fates work against Death ?

Why this Rating ?
Both Cleo and Jax are very well defined character. Cleo is strong, determined and possesses just the right amount of vulnerability. Where as Jax is strong, protective and inspite of being the alpha hero of Mills and boon- has his own fears and drawbacks. This makes the characters very relatable.

I love the way both of them support each other. A perfect ingredient for a successful couple. Here I have a favorite scene.
