Book Description

"Some were not meant to return."

The Returners Season One collects parts 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 to form the complete season in a single volume.

Alex Heton is living a second life and so is his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend, Chloe. After a man tries to kill both of them in a restaurant, they reveal to each other that they are the reincarnated bodies and minds of Alexander the Great and Joan of Arc.

Before long, they find out that there are many out there like themselves, from Eliot Ness to a thirteen-year-old Albert Einstein. As the group tries to band together and figure out how they have returned, they are hunted by a crazed killer who is just like them: a returner. Can they figure out who the killer is in time? Will they find out how they managed to retain all of their memories from a previous life? How many returners are there?

The Returners: Season One is a razor-plotted SciFi novel filled with brilliant humor, creative action, and thought-provoking ideas about science and life. Pick up a copy of the serialized phenomenon and find out what everyone has been talking about!

This is Science Fiction on the bleeding edge.

Praise for "The Returners":

“To put it completely blunt, ‘The Returners’ is a work of art—a harmonious blend of science fiction, humor, action, history, and a hint of romance.”

"The Returners by Mikey Neumann is an action-packed page turner, filled with a memorable cast of characters, some great humor, and more historical references than you can shake a World History 101 syllabus at."
- Mark Driscoll, Word of the Nerd Online

“If you like fast paced action & suspense with a dash of history, this is totally for you. Trust me. I can't wait for the next section to come out! My only complaint? Mr. Neumann needs to write faster.”

5.0 out of 5 stars An experiment that turned out awesome! December 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
As the description says, this started as a 'Novel Experiment.' Mikey published each chapter on-line in the fashion of the old serials. It became an instant hit! I don't think I've read another sci-fi novel with the premise presented here. Re-incarnated good guys (and not-so-good guys) coming back for no known reason with their memories intact. Are they here to save the world? No one really knows. Mikey's narrative is smooth and the suspense that he builds from chapter to chapter keeps you flipping the pages. I say flipping pages because you have the advantage that when a chapter leaves you hanging, you get to flip the page. We (those who have been reading on-line since chapter one) had to wait days sometime a week for the next chapter. Also, for the price, you CAN NOT GO WRONG. Buy it, and enjoy. Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely thrilling up to the very last word! January 17, 2013

When I read a book and I have to stop and wonder just how many layers of craziness is going on, I know I am really enjoying it.

You don't have to be a history lover to enjoy this strange trip through what I suppose could be called "re-history". Each character has such a believably unique attitude that you could swear Mikey hijacked a time-travelling phone booth and found out what each historical figure's personality type was like. His presentation is just impeccable.

Believe me, this is definitely a journey that won't let you down. It has plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing, and some fantastic surprises that will completely blow your mind. Plus, there are tacos. You can't go wrong with tacos.

Now stop reading this and go read The Returners already. :P

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read January 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book immensely. It's light reading, but clever and original enough to be engaging. Even if you're not a fan of historical/science fiction (I guess that's what this would be?) it's a great way to pass an afternoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars It grabs you and won't let go! September 13, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
What do you mean Season Two isn't out yet? Arrghhhh.

Who has come back? Why are they here? Whose side are they on? How many sides are there?

When the action in this book started rolling, I read faster and faster. I couldn't stop because I *had* to find out what happened next. "Gripping" doesn't do this book justice.

If doesn't matter how someone classifies this book. If you like good books, that capture you and make you forget everything going on around you, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't put it down! July 22, 2013
By CB06
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have been desperate to find a book that I can't put down, from an unknown author. I picked this one up, and it fit the bill! I read over 70% of it one day, and would have kept reading if it weren't a 'school' night. I think the story is original and engaging. The chapters are short, which is always a plus for me, so you can theoretically stop sooner. Or go with "just one more." Just something refreshing and different. Not an end of the world book, nor a romance, or a murder mystery. Don't know how I would classify it other than action packed. Give it a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept; wonderful execution July 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I first read the synopsis of The Returners, I was sold. I am a sucker for fiction that blurs the lines between reality and fiction; this book definitely delivers. Mikey Neumann masterfully weaves ordinary situations with extraordinary events and makes them feel cohesive and "normal" for the characters involved. Also, the dark humor interspersed through the book was right up my alley.

While the book could have used another editing pass (typos, few grammatical issues) and the pacing a bit off in some spots, it sounds like the author is aware of the issues and is keeping them in mind. Either way, that wasn't enough to turn me away from the story. I love it and have recommended it to friends.

I can't wait for Season 2. I need to see how the events unfold and what happens to these characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing concept for a series. May 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I truly enjoyed reading this, the concept is fairly novel and the author handles it well. I equate this with The Night's Dawn series by Peter F. Hamilton. Both deal with "Returners" although Hamiltons books are more polished. I had fun trying to figure out who each of the Returners were based upon clues given with varied success. The book could use some editing to smooth over parts, but overall a very good read. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the "Seasons"

Clever an imaginative story. And free! That makes it easier to try out an author I'm not familiar with. I'll definitely buy something from him in the future to support his work.
