I really enjoy this story line, the author has a great imagination and knows how to put it into words.
Martin D. Findley
It has a great story line and there are no pauses on the direction on which the story is progressing.

Just when you thought there wouldn't be much more to write about in the series with seemingly all the beasts and monsters vanquished, the author is able to continue the story by incorporating foes from places you would least expect.

What I enjoyed most about this book is the problems Tungdil is facing at this point in the series, reminding the reader that he is very much alive and has very complicated internal problems, and that he is not just a two dimensional boastful hero. These problems are why I can relate and sympathize with Tungdil so well.

The book contains a wonderful attention to detail to the new monstrosities encountered, and even leaves you wondering who the true enemy is until the end. With new friends and the return of some old ones, you will never know what will happen next.

I read the first book in this series, loved it. The second book felt like a dull, yet tolerable copy of the first. The third book, this book was painful to read. Halfway through the book, it felt as if I had been reading the same chapter over and over again. The author touched on some topics like loss and addiction but, I have seen topics like these covered more truthfully on Jerry Springer than with this book. Despite this being a fantasy story and obviously about Dwarves, it felt as if I was reading a story about normal humans and everyday drama. There is a bit too much focus on love and relationships and not enough on the real story. The true plot felt forced as if the author could not stand to cover it and push it out as quickly and as thin as possible.

If you want to read about seemingly invincible monsters that no one seems to know about, and suddenly learn their identities with a crude build up, this may be for you. You would also want to read about normal every day crap like relationships and AA meetings to enjoy this book. I hated this story for how pointless the topics were, the plot being gutted, forced and the lack of any true dwarvish presence.

****Spoiler section: With the previous books taking out most of the bad guys, this book gives us new bad guys that seem to be immortal with no information on who they are until suddenly the author decides to let us know all about them. The whole thing is nothing more than a few main characters doing this: Fighting, getting their asses kicked by mysterious monsters, falling in love with females and getting their asses kicked some more. No depth, tons of meaningless love drama and none of the funny bits or intense moments found in either of the previous books. If you want to continue to enjoy this series, pretend that this book NEVER existed.

I absolutely love this series, and this latest installment has been just as enjoyable as the previous titles in the series! It looks like there'll be another of these to come...I simply can't wait! If you're into fantasy...especially good, epic fantasy with great characters...this series is for you friends! Though not quite as epic as say The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, these are still great workings for any fantasy lover. Out of what I have read or am reading, I would rank it up with the likes of Inheritance Cycle 4-Book Hard Cover Boxed Set (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, Inheritance) and The Sword of Shannara as far as enjoyability.

I have really enjoyed this series and am now on the fourth and final book and am reading it slowly as I don't want the story to end.

While there are similarities to Lord of the Rings of course, dwarves, humans, elves, warriors, magic, orcs, trolls, etc... the Dwarves series is even more to my liking (not saying I didn't like LoTR, after all I've read he series along with the Hobbit three times) but the Dwarves series is perhaps more fun and action oriented to read while not having the depth.

This third book suffers a bit from translation (the original language of these books is German) which lead to me having to re-read things a few times to figure out what was meant but that's fine with me as it really didn't bother me.

If you like "Middle Earth" type stories, action oriented fantascy, LoTR, or have ever played game like World of Warcraft, EverQuest, or like myself feel that it is finally time for Dwarves to get their just due after being handled as "comic relief" in too many other story lines, I would strongly recommend The Dwarves series.

The third in the series, this book is simply brilliant. Bought this one the moment I saw it on the shelf since I loved the first two. What initially appealed to me about this series is the fact that this one deals with main protogonists who are not human or elves. Dwarves who in most fantasy literature are a sidekick race are the focal race here. Of course elves and humans exist too and een the non dwarf characters are well developed. A must have for any fantasy lover, the series will keep you gripped and wanting for more. I hope Heitz continues to write more in this series.
Read them in this order: "The Dwarves", "The Wars of the Dwarves" & "The Revenge of the Dwarves". You cannot go wrong getting this set.
